Bill Berry is the most underrated drummer in rock. He and Mikey Mills were an incredible rythym section. Which on "Orange Crush" gave space for Buck to hit those big open chords, and Stipe to give that great vocal performance ...
Green's a great album. Love the range that the band showed with it. Yeah, that was probably the height of Stipe's powers as a front-man.

Agreed... But Lifes Rich Pageant and Reckoning are still the all-around greatest REM albums

Agreed... But Lifes Rich Pageant and Reckoning are still the all-around greatest REM albums Murmer and Automatic for the People are the greatest R.E.M. albums. Reckoning is right behind, though. And Lifes Rich Pageant is awesome, too.

That was a respectful and dignified "you're wrong" wink, by the way. Here's another Yep, and here's one right back at ya! Really, I can understand a person picking any R.E.M. album but AtS as their fave.

Good enough for me. I haven't been able to listen to more than a few tracks off of Around the Sun. Disappointing enough...I didn't want to add any fuel to the fire. REM still rules, as far as my ears are concerned.

I can't really see anyone picking Out Of Time or Reveal, besides Automatic For The People is obviously the best.

..or Up, Up is very much not their best, in fact until AtS it was their worst.

I like Up and Reveal. However, I never latched onto Out of Time either. But that one I at least tried to like. Reveal and Up I am still quite fond of, though.

And I completely forgot about Monster. Probably a reason for that.
What's the topic again? Oh unimportant albums that rock, yeah.
King's X - Dogman
it rocked, but it sucked at the same time. I liked it, but I know why no one ever really gave a shit about King's X.

Im with frag.
Out of Time, for Me, sucked when it came out. I thought "WTF?" To this day, I would rather listen to Around the Sun (even though the lyrics are SO BAD--"Leaving New York never easy..." )than Out of Time....I CANNOT STAND "Radio Song" and "Shiny Happy People" It has "Me In Honey" on it though, so I cant totally discredit it....
UP is cool cos its totally out there. I love UP.
Reveal is great too. Its got a very strange vibe---
my fav is still Green. I lived in a small town in my youth and I had to go to a "city" to get Fables, Reckoning, etc. But a local radio station played GREEN in whole, and I taped it--sounded like ass but my mind was blown. Man I played it every fucking day.

I love Up. Played the hell out of it for about three years. "At My Most Beautiful," "Falls to Climb," even "Daysleeper" -- these are all first tier R.E.M. songs.
IMO Reveal is the most sonically gorgeous album they've ever come up with. For sheer sonic beauty, it has few peers in rock and roll.
NAIHF, however, is very good but has Stipe's weakest vocals on record. His voice was shot from touring, and it would've been a better record if they'd waited until he'd recovered a bit more. But goddamn, "New Test Leper" and "Electrolite" are both as good as anything they've ever done.
