Noisy metal band from NJ. Lots of timing changes and really fast stuff. Indie kids love it, and their existance probably helped out the Wolf Eyes and Lightning Bolts of the world to sell discs.
Prog metal. Think less Tool and think more Dream Theater.
They got lunked under the indie/emo thing in the late 90s. They broke up a couple years back. Along the lines of At The Drive In.

" Heard some "Coheed and Cambria" on the radio, and I thought it was terrible. Not my thing, I guess, but maybe I should listen more." I absolutely understand & agree luke -- catching but a glimpse of C&C's expansive canvas of complex musical motifs / time changes / and flowing narrative via one of their radio hits is not the way to go. It could most definitely give you the wrong impression of their scope & scale, not to mention serious musical chops. The only way to have the opportunity to decide whether you like them is to listen to their entire album In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3 from start to finish, as it was intended. This is epic science fiction as filtered through neo-post-poppunk prog. The amazing thing about them, IMO, is that no matter which camp of music you love OR hate within those categories -- C&C manage the rare feat of bringing into their fold individuals of varying tastes. I.E., those who hate RUSH and love Sum41 for instance AS WELL AS those who love RUSH and utterly despise bands like Sum41/etc will drop all preconceptions and fall hypnotized under C&C's spell. Those who simply lend one ear to a passage from one of their songs on the radio or MTV and conclude "NAAH, this ain't for me" just very well might miss out on a band that has the potential to win their hearts over with their positively infectious rhythms & melodies. Not to mention their guitarists and drummer are right up there with the tightest I've ever heard, and Claudio their lead singer has a range that would give Halford, Geddy Lee or King Diamond a run for their money -- all the while never staying in the higher register for too long (in other words he's all over the place). C&C definitely qualify as the most important band I've discovered this millenium. Everyone should give them a chance -- regardless of what type of music you listen to, IMO. *except for lovers of COLDPLAY: JUST STAY AWAY from my beloved Coheed & Cambria, because in the words of Eddie Vedder, this is NOT FOR YOU* (That last bit was just a mean lil joke kidz)

Oh, and as for Dillinger Escape Plan...
This could well be the ONLY band in the history of the universe that you need to check out BEFORE Mike Patton started coming around. Really.

No. The Melvins deserve that too. Easily.

Ok, if anyone is the least bit interested in "post-rock", add EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY to your list of post-rock bands to check out. I got their debut album entitled "Those Who Tell The Truth Will Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Will Live Forever", and it is a beaut.
I got into them from hearing their latest album, "The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place", over at my friend's house. It was remarkably . . .expressive, to say the least. So I figured I'd dive right into the beginning of their catalogue.
I am fond of it.

I recommend to anyone to put the critic inside aside and just feel the music to Blind Melon's self-titled debut. After about 5 listens you'll find yourself singing your guts out, that is unless you hate it.

who the heck are these bands... and are there any good? The Dismemberment Plan They're a fun quirky indie band. They were really fun to see live because they had a kick ass rhythm section. Their primary influences are talking heads and dischord records. Here's a song from their last album: s17.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0NY5PMVE5GLKF2Y32MN3MYV4RVI'd like to reccommend the Constantines. They're a rock band from Canada that sounds like Fugazi meets Bruce Springsteen. Just a real, authentic rock and roll band. I think everybody should own their debut album as it's easily the best album released in the last 5 years. Here's the first song from their debut album: s9.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=14YJ8G3E7BU1Z0HLCLI8VWENQ1

Funny you should bring it up, cuz I'd be dying to include songs from it on the mix I wanna make you. But I already knew you totally dig those guys, so I'll be holding off on that. Let me ask you this, though: Do you have their posthumous release, "Nico" - ? (If not, I'll surely include some of those rare tracks on the mix. Otherwise, I'll hold off to increase the chances most of the stuff is new to you) R.I.P. Shannon Hoon

I highly suggest buying "Emergency and I" one of the best albums of the late 90's if you doubt it download "What Do You Want Me To Say" It's their greatest achievemnt "Change" is the last full length as they broke up in 2003 and Lead singer Travis Morrison went solo

Yes, I have Nico and love the hell out of it. It falls around 27th or 28th all time on my favorite albums of all time. I recommend to YOU, however, a VU cover that Blind Melon did: "Candy Says". That's one of the best tunes they ever did.

Btw, "Swallowed" is my favorite off of that album, followed by "Glitch", "Soup" and "Hell".

Didn't the Melon also do a cover of OUT ON THE TILES, on the Zep tribute -?
