Going to the post office is pretty easy job...maybe someone's hiring skills should be called into question? Unfortunately, I didn't hire the minion in question ... all the minions I've actually hired myself were capable of going to the post office. At least one of them was able to actually stop traffic, as well (just ask Rocky). But this one comes with the office.

Just quickly- I voted for Ten, dig the earliest output the best, got some good memories when Ten came out, that's why, don't think the last album was all that good and I'm sort of over the band anyway.
Carry on.

That's understandable, maarts. At least you didn't vote for Riot Act. Maybe Strat-0 can tell me who's responsible for that obvious mistake. Give 'em a chance to retract and correct it.

WTF voted for Riot Act? That can't have been a serious vote! Come back here, I wanna here your reasons for that, whoever you are ... and then pick those "reasons" apart piece by piece. Riot Act is a bad record, no matter whose name is on it or what the circumstances around it were. Dude, settle down now, Riot Act is not that bad of a record. Matter of fact, it's a damned fine quality recording; it just doesn't happen to suit your particular taste, is all. A lot of thought went into the making of that album, I'd wager. It surely wasn't "knocked off" from the hip. It's not my favorite, but I recognize a quality studio recording when I hear it. And Riot Act is quality, imo.

I think it's interesting that, like Neil Young, Pearl Jam don't have a clear "best" album. As these polls have shown each proper album will probably get at least one vote. They're a consistently good band. Fifteen years old and each fan has their own disappointing album and their favorite but it spans their entire career.

Ah ThoRny, you're getting into those special brownies again, aren't you? I'm gonna try to sit through Riot Act again soon, but it's at best a mediocre record. The only way that any sane person could think it was PJ's best record is if it's the only one they've ever heard.

I guess I should note that if it hadn't been for the self-titled, I would have chosen either Live on Two Legs or a bootleg (Milan 2000) as their best record. No Code is awfully good, but it's got those final two tracks to deal with (both of which are duds IMO), and those two live recordings are perfect -- or damn near.

I'll probably get Live Riot Act up on mon. It's better in it's live incarnation, but IMO it's still easily their least interesting album.

if not for the fillers, Vitalogy could be PJ's best album....
Ken, when did you last listen to Riot Act? It's been awhile for me, but last time I listened, I didn't think it was bad as I initially did. "1/2 Full" kinda surprised me...it has a great little jam at the end.

if not for the fillers, Vitalogy could be PJ's best album.... Even with the fillers, it's their best album because the good stuff on it is fantastic. That said, these guys have sucked more or less for about a decade now.

By my count there are at least 27 things incorrect about that statement.

They've had the occasional good song in the past decade but their last 'great' album was No Code. They suffered an artistic decline after that and they're still going through it to this day. That latest self-titled album was one of the most overrated and overhyped albums in recent years. It got old on the third listen. Even Riot Act has more going for it.

I think Vitalogy deserves at least one vote. Btw, it'n that Ryo's fave? It is. Wow, I can't believe you remembered it, especially since I don't think I talk about Pearl Jam that often. No Code bored the living daylights out of me, as did Yield, and I lost interest in the band and moved on. I gave cursory listens at the record store to some of the stuff they've put out since, but I didn't really hear anything compelling. That's okay though, you PJ fans will have your chance to get back at me when I put up some Soul Flower Union on the ysi thread this weekend, which I'm sure you'll all hate.
