Completely random order cos I have no idea how any of you do this ‘definitive’ exercise, time and again, of ‘Yes, I like this ‘X’ WAY better than that ‘Y’’:
Joe Jackson - One More Time (Look Sharp) English Beat - Mirror in the Bathroom (I Just Can't Stop It) “ “ - I Confess (Special Beat Service) Black Sabbath - Sweet Leaf (Master of Reality) Deep Purple - Highway Star (Machine Head) Soundgarden - Let Me Drown (Superunknown) The Oils - Redneck Wonderland (Redneck Wonderland) Powderfinger - Waiting For The Sun (Odyssey Number 5) Richard Thompson - When The Spell Is Broken (Across A Crowded Room) Aerosmith - Same Old Song And Dance (Get Your Wings) ....Tyler squeezes some serious nut-crunching high notes while singing this one! Tom Waits - Emotional Weather Report (Nighthawks At The Diner) ‘….that the crack of dawn better watch out’ Janes Addiction - True Nature (Strays) Rush - One Little Victory (Vapor Trails) The Donnas - It's On The Rocks (Spend The Night) Danko Jones - Forget My Name (We Sweat Blood) ...the above four albums came out at pretty much the same time (I think) and all began strong and carried right on through. Beatles - It Wont Be Long (WITH the Beatles) ….not the album where I first grew to love this song, where it was actually song #4, but here it opens. Mott The Hoople - All The Way To Memphis (Mott) ....BIG on Mott The Hoople back in the day. The even more sublime Rock And Roll Queen was also opener on some import compilation that I paid big bux for. Alice Cooper - Hello Hooray (Billion Dollar Babies) …the Ezrin touch, smoove as silk. Great Cooper disc. Funkadelic – Maggot Brain (Maggot Brain) The Band - Don't Do It (Rock Of Ages) …and yes it’s a live set, so I may as well put RnR Animal’s Sweet Jane down too. OK, I won't. Since I normally favor a live set over a studio album, that sorta arbitrary prohibition hog-ties me just a bit. But I absolutely LOVE this 'Don't Do It'. And it opens. Living Colour - Cult Of Personality (Vivid) Little Feat - Rock And Roll Doctor (Feats Don’t Fail Me Now) …my I-net namesake and a song which pushed me indirectly to my avocation. REO Speedwagon – Roll With the Changes (You Can Tune a Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish) ….I can hear the ‘R E-fucking-O?? Sure Doc.’. To you I say hell yeah. THIS was a great song. NOT a K Cronin ballad which invariably blow. This is a true ensemble piece of the highest order, say WeverTF you will. AC / DC- Highway to Hell (Highway to Hell) Almost put RnR Damnation up... Mountain - Mississippi Queen (Climbing) ...this one makes me feel so good I wanna go out and KILL someone.
Yeah.

Funny Frag, I had no problem doing this one, but the closers list is kicking my ass.
I can't believe I didn't include "Refugee" on my list ... I may have to edit mine a bit further.

Sweet Leaf, Highway Star, Same Old Song & Dance, - and especially 'One Little Victory' - , these are all fucking stellar openers Roc !
~
Smells Like Teen Spirit, London Calling, and Life Wasted I think are great choices too, frag. A lot of people chose Baba Oreilly and hot damn no wonder, this song has got to be near the Top Slot. Back In The USSR I think is a good choice - I just recently acquired me a vinyl edition of the white album, and thoroughly enjoyed re-acquainting myself with it, properly.
Refugee is a pretty solid opener too.

Cult of Personality!!! Good pick.
Sweet Leaf, Highway Star, Same Old Song & Dance, - and especially 'One Little Victory' - , these are all fucking stellar openers Roc ! Stellar, I thought so....but I can also see that there's virtually like nothing up there post-1980. All sorts of Replacements/Clash/Nirvana, those were never big on my musical diet ever, especially as 'album bands'. Liked lots of Nirvana, but for this thing here, I just picked the bands I recalled who registered as having had several knockout songs per disc and I AMG'd a good 50% of them to see whether the good 'uns were the leadoff... Nope, not going to do the closers that way here, haven't got the time to invest. Maybe I'll just read yours, without doing all that footwork myself. Maybe I can count on thorn to put down enough 'old man music' flat out rawkin' closing tracks to keep me entertained. He seems to have a pretty good perspective of 'past worth' in regards to 'The Classix'.

I haven't, no, though I'd like to. Actually, Don't Give Up on Me is the only Burke album I have, which is pretty sad. I absolutely love it though, especially that title track. Gorgeous.

Bump -- and a reminder: all lists are due and final this Friday at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Got that, or does anyone need a refresher on when Mountain Time is, etc.? This is gonna be an interesting list to total up. I've already arranged to have the voting machines put "Thunder Road" at the top of the list, so the contest really is for number two.
