I remember being around my mom playing the rat pack and my dad listening to journey/bob seiger mom in the car when i was 3 or 4 playing prince and michael jackson thriller sometimes it was lionel richie or the pointer sisters
every now and then it was my dad's counrty collection conway twitty alabama/george strait with my baby brother
BUT I HAD TO EXPERIENCE SOMETHING OF MY OWN about 9 or 10 years old
my uncle who was a dj about(27 at the time)gave me a reason to crave music from this point on
i picked up the headphones for the first time
he played the begining of "Where the Streets Have No Name"
i still get chills over the intro today
i was hooked i listend to the JOSHUA TREE over and over like my cousins do the Jonas Brothers (there 7/8 give the girls time)
my uncle WOODY no joke here kept giving me music on cassettes or mix tapes
Public Enemy/The Clash/EPMD/RUN DMC/SEX PISTOLS/iggy pop/david bowie
he was my hip version of columbia house
but one song stuck out above all others
there was this beat that i couldn't shake and when i heard it i had to bang in unison with my hands a paint can with a brush i remember
woody saw this and said do you wanna play my drum kit?
i practiced every day for what seemed like years in months (he lived right across the street for the next 6 years)
when i wasn't playing video games/sports i was playing the drums trying to get to where i could be in a real band (not a school band drummer) from 10 yrs-15 old it never seemed tio fade i can hear as i'm typing this right now
THE VELVET UNDERGROUND'S Waiting for My Man
was the sole reason i became as interested in music
i was too young to understand the lyrics but that tribal beating pulled out the musician in me
maureen tucker is the one who inspired me to play in multiple bands
a metallica cover band at 13
a punk pop band at 14
i learned to dj and work the party scene/raves at 15-22
i started writting spoken word/rap/poetry/lyrics at 16
while my friends loved poison/ firehouse/hammer/ice
i was discovering alternative /electronic music/hardcore rap
the first album i bought on cassette was RHCP BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK
the first Cd I bought was Snoop DOGGY DOGG doggystyle
the first band i thought was speaking for me was OASIS
I lost my virginityat 13 to GNR Use Your Illusion 2 Breakdown was playing when we began(best friends neighbor the 3 of us were watching Madonna's Truth or Dare so you can guess how it happened)
Jeff Buckley/Pearl Jam/Afghan Whigs/OutKast/The Roots/RadioHead/NIN
They were there for me in great times and the times I had to learn to let go of regret with my choices
i grew up fast and had a bad relationship with my parents due to my immaturity(were so close now it's like it never happened)
now Music still means a lot to me it follows every relationship i have certain girls who are connected to albums that i can't listen to without thinking of them
or when a song played what we were doing in a bar or club
i worked in the industry for 9 years and was exposed to everything i got out last year because i was burnt out
ROCK BAND/Guitar Hero ARE MY FAVORITE INVENTIONS OF THIS DECADE
they allow me to go back to the band years without the stress and regrets it not the same sure
but my uncle who's retired still can throw a party if we just want to jam for a night
why do you think my friends call me a walking i-pod
they always want my year end mixes for their daily life no matter if it's parties/working out ,sitting in traffic
in 2009 i'm spending more time on my guitar skills im a lefty and i can play certain things by listening i'm gonna to produce more electronic/hip hop beats with a friend and sometime this year i will buy a new drum set i say it every year but i mean it this time
as wayne says I AM MUSIC
