I'm kind of strapped for time tonight, Ken, but I promise I'll read your thoughts on Born To Run tomorrow. In fact, I look forward to it.
But for now...what is wrong with you guys? How can you list "Something In The Night" as your least favorite track on Darkness? I cannot believe that! That song almost single-handedly turned me into a Bruce Springsteen fan. I don't want to say too much because I'm likely to pontificate on it this Monday but for the life of me I cannot understand how anyone could consider this song any lower than one of the best he's ever recorded. When we found the things we loved they were crushed and dying in the dirt We tried to pick up the pieces and get away without getting hurt But they caught us at the state line, burned our car in one last fight And left us running burned and blind chasing something in the night Automatic chills, my friends.

Just finished the Born To Run piece, Ken. I'm assuming you're giving it 5 Stars? I always thought the Roy Orbison line was "Hey that's me and I want you only", not "hold me". Nitpicking to be sure, but when you've sung along to a song for so long you kinda want to get the lyrics right. If I've been mistaken I do hope you'll correct me. Otherwise, all I can say is that I honestly wish I was as good a writer as you are. Seriously. Excellent stuff.

JAC -- I'm pretty sure you're right about that line -- at least the way it's sung on the album. It's hard to say with the live versions, but I think you've got the "official" line correct. I didn't bother checking the lyrics when I wrote that piece, so the mistake's mine. And thanks for the kind words on the Born to Run piece. As for the rating, um, can I give an album 17 stars? That's about what this one deserves.

Fanatics, that's what we are. Yep. True blue, dyed-in-the-wool, camp-out-all-night-in-the-freezing-cold-for-a-ticket fanatics.
Despite PEW's Seger comparisons (indeed, spitting in their face) I do believe that Born To Run elevates the Boss to the hallowed plane where reside the Beatles, the Stones, Bob Dylan and...and...well, that's really about it when you get to that level of brilliance.

Oh yeah, I was thinking the same things, JAC. But fanaticism is fun, innit? And how many things in all the world can make you feel like the guitars in Born to Run? BTW, thanks for making this board DED. And thanks to JAC for inspiring this latest round of Bruce-mania.

I'm seriously considering purchasing Nebraska unless one of you sincerely objects saying that I should buy another one of his first.

If Nebraska is what you want to hear, then by all means get Nebraska. It's definately a 5 star album. You just have to go into it knowing that it's quite unlike anything the man's ever done before. Still, I think that if you DO like it you'll probably like most of his other stuff, too. Darkness On The Edge Of Town would be a good follow-up to Nebraska, IMO. Then you'll really be ready to tackle the rest of his catalogue. I do quite envy you, that you're hearing all this great music for the first time. For me it's been a life-long obsession. I don't know if you'll have the same reaction, but it's not the worst obsession a man can have.

Welp, boyz, I had to drive to OKC and back this morning and I'm kinda pooped, so you'll have to wait 1-2 days for my thoughts on Darkness. Furthermore, there's a thunderstorm currently raging outside and I really shouldn't have this computer on. I shall soon shut 'er down. No doubt this news causes much consternation in our little congregation of Bruce fans... I can only hope none of you resort to suicide as a result.

Well, don't wait too long, we have to catch up to the Ray Davies board. I think we can do it by the end of the summer.

Hmm, I dunno, we've got you posting on this board now, Dolly. And you're no more able to resist talk about the Boss than JAC or I. So we'll expect to be reading your thoughts on Born to Run and Darkness here soon, too. ;D
