Yeah, others do come to mind. The one I immediately think of and arguably a better choice for 1990 than Savvy Show Stoppers, which did enjoy a fair bit of acclaim at the time and later, with the Kids in the Hall association, would have been Scott Merritt’s Violet and Black.
Amazing record, on the level of a Peter Gabriel IMHO, but it disappeared without a trace practically the day it hit the street. Actually first came out in Canada near the end of 1989 on Duke Street Records, which promptly went into receivership. IRS in the States then picked it up and released in 1990 but any hope of it doing anything was lost in record company machinations when they were being absorbed into EMI. To top it all off, the IRS deal kept Merritt from recording for anyone else even after they went bust in the mid 90s and he didn’t put out another record till 2002.

Forgot to mention that I nearly tripped over The Trailer Park Boys coming out of a pub at lunch time.
Halifax's proudest foul mouthed, dope smoking, Helix listening TV stars were heading up the street just as I was heading back to the office.
Julian, Ricky and Bubbles. I wish I could have told them how cool their show was, but I shy away from chatting up celebrities of any magnitude for some reason, if you could even call these guys celebrities.
Too cool anyway.

Guess I'll cut that one from the 'possibilities' list then. Oh well, damn thing is too long anyway.

Riley - I'm listening to the new PJ Harvey. Dunno if you've got yer paws on this one yet, but my initial thoughts are that it opens with five old-style Polly numbers - very pared down and miserable, though not as fiery as her early career (or as melodic as "Missed", for that matter). Then it seems to fade away until a strong ending.
I can already say I much prefer it to the last album, and there's no reason to be worried or not to buy it.
If you've already reviewed this somewhere then give me a nod in the right direction, 'cos I wouldn't mind 'avin' a butchers at that.

No review buddy, but I also got my hands on it (I'll be buying it next week) and have a similar take. IT definitely opens where she's most comfortable. Rollin g around in the muck with a banker.
She's streaming the video for "Who The Fuck" on her website. Sort of a blurry production thing, but I liked it. The song is trademark Polly.
Need to hear some more, but I'll probably hold back listening to much more of the DL'd version so I can enjoy the release more.

Oh yeah, looks like I'm a moderator in these parts now. No fucking around or you get sent to Thunder Bay or Moonbeam.
That doesn't mean anything to non Canucks, but let's just say you would have to travel way the fuck north of Toronto.

Jesus. Posted a link to an article/interview with Polly from Exclaim (Canadian monthly zine) in the Coffeeshop. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll post it again.
As for the Morrissey interview it's too big to email. Any bright ideas gang?

Buck 65's playing at The Marquee this Saturday. Was going to see what you guys were up to, but I've been informed by my Social Director that I have a prior engagement.
It has also been pointed out that after my Plaskett hangover performance, any outings, music related or otherwise, had better be a bit more low key or I'll be spending said hangover period out in the shed.

No matter how times I hear the cannon go off at 12 noon up on Citadel Hill, it always manages to scare the fucking shit out of me.

Riley, I'm so in love with your dogs. How close are you to Citadel Hill? Fuck, I'm excited to go back to Halifax. Is that weird? A friend (and I use that word loosely) who lived out east for awhile thinks it quite strange that we're going on an East Coast road trip for our honeymoon as opposed to a more traditional vacation somewhere hot and sunny. I promptly told her to bite me, of course, since I'm completely excited about the prospect of our road trip. And I'm all for going somewhere exotic - hopefully there'll be lots of time for that on our first, fifth, tenth anniversaries...
