2 hours before midnight Texas time. Have 1/2 a pack of marlboro lights left. Wonder if the marlboro man wants whats left? Bought some nicotine gum at walgreens. The generic kind. 10 bucks less than the brand names. The 4 mg kind. Smoke over 24 smokes a day (pack and a half to two packs on the norm) so went with the directions and opted for the 4 mg instead of the 2 mg. Gosh I'm nervous. Should I go sit in a chair and smoke the last 1/2 of the last pack? Waste not want not right boys and goils? Wish me luck. Send the 'good vibrations.'

I see my handle has changed from streetcorner musician to struggling artist. An improvement. Progress not perfection...

Just wanted to send you best wishes with the smoking, Pat. If you stumble upon a way to stop the enjoyment of smoking, please let me know! I smoke Marlboro Lights too, but I think The Marlboro Man is dead! Seriously, sending you good karma. I want you to succeed. Suck it up, be tough, and all my best. I know you'll be just fine, best of luck to you as well. Hell, luck never hurt anybody!

Thanks Strawman. Appreciate words of encouragement. I will say I smoked the last 1/2 of the pack as I finished John Sandford's "Naked Prey." On the last one in the pack, I kicked back some and thoroughly enjoyed my last smoke. It's making the decision after 25 years of smoking that is the hardest part I think. Been thinkin' about quitting the last year or so. Decided 2 months (minus a few days) before my 40th belly button b-day would be a great time to quit. Before a myocardial infraction might hit. Keepin' me fingers crossed chum.

No that means I don't know the correct spelling for a heart attack. Any-hoo, Have made it to the 12 hour mark. Had one piece of nicotine gum. Damn. That shits strong. That and after the initial mint chews the taste of nicotine definately left me with a bad taste in my mouth. No pun intended. Dizzy as well. Flashback to my dizzy queen days. Again no pun intended...

BTW: Am I having a non-nicotine induced delusion or does my handle keep saying 87 posts for all my posts?
Never mind...now it's 88.
Oops.

OOOoooh hang on, Pat!
The air will smell different, food will have TASTE without having to salt the fuck out of it...
Wait, about the air....go somewhere in nature where it's fresh. Go out to the desert...(Texas, right? Houston, was it? Then do NOT breath in that city...)
Either way, fuck RJ Reynolds and his minions, passive-aggressively making people around the globe stink...no offense intended, but yeah.
Good luck, be stubborn!!

Thanks Roc. Little over 20 hours now. My last drag was about 11:45 p.m. last night. 4 pieces of nicotine gum. The gum DOES take away the initial cravings. Like getting a second wind when it gets to much. Was a little snappy today. Wonder if tomorrow will be better or worse? Think my entire system is in shock...once that shock alleviates...
Anyways, thanks for the encouragement RocDoc

Made it through my first day. The worst was after dinner. Man did I want a drag then. Have had a total of 6 pieces if nicotine gum. Directions suggest at the minimum 9 so I have done better than I expected. Nicotine gum for a week or so then gum and suckers (loli-pops) for how-ever long it takes.
Strat-O moved the board. Now I'm a moderator. Wee-hee.

It's definately not a pleasant experience. It's another of those catch 22's I think. The powers that be at the World Service Level for the recovery program I'm in consider smoking as an "outside issue" refusing to rule on the issue of whether or not nicotine is addictive. Personally, I think its an individual issue. Its an addiction. My first addiction, the last to go. A bona-fide, real mccoy 12 stepper doesn't use tobacco (IMOHO.)
Theres a lot of people who don't agree with my opinion, or my views on recovery. They are entitled to their own opinion. I do whats best for me. They do whats best for them. And thats how it really works.
Any-hoo, hope the cravings diminish. 'Cause they do suck.
