1st Impressions on.. Trail of the Dead "World's Apart"Hey Kids it's definitely NOT Source Tags & Codes nor Madonna or the debutThis sounds like a band who has MARS VOLTA lite aspriations "Will You Smile Again"- You open the album with some chanting then decide what if "Pet Sounds" was updated for the Y ME Generation it's a stunner "World"s Apart"- You'll love it or hate it just for the nursey rhyme sound and lyrics like Random lost souls have asked me What's the future of Rock N roll? I say "I Don't Know Does it Matter? This and That Scene They Sound All The Same To Me Neither Much Worse,Nor Much BetterSummer of 91-Look out it's not a Bryan Adams anthem, but a positive remeberence on a TOD album? Where's the blood and soliders in battle like the front cover I don't have enough time today to break down each track but at least 4 standouts so far(The Rest Will Follow,Classic Arts Showcase,Let It Dive,Lost City of Refuge) After 1 listen I'm not dissapointed and Pitchfork messed up yet again(4.0) I'll follow up on this later

I like this board idea Patten. The only one from that list that I've listened to in more than a passing manner so far is the Game album. Pretty slick production -- something to be expected considering the who's who behind the curtains on this one -- and when he flows he sounds uncannily like Dre a lot of the time. I'll give it a good listen this weekend.
I plan on getting to the m83, Chemicals, and Bright Eyes faux country albums this weekend.

I look forward to tracking this board's progress. A few artists I think should have new records I'm looking forward to this year: Beck Bob Dylan White Stripes Raveonettes Strokes Coldplay Probably missing a few, but I just don't buy many new albums anymore.

That new trail of dead record sounds like a bad mix tape from the early 90s era of indie rock. I think that record totally sucks.

I haven't heard too many wonderful praising comments about the new Trail of Dead album.... they are saying that it aint no Source Tags and Codes which admittedly isn't easy to beat.... but most opinions i am hearing seem to assert it doesn't even level with it...
Personally I am quite looking forward to hearing the new Doves album!

Don't have it yet but I am very much looking forward to laying hands on the new Low disc. The advance stuff I've heard sounds very interesting...
Also - the new Marianne Faithfull, Before the Poison, a collaboration with P.J. Harvey and Nick Cave.

Here's the review of Marianne Faithfull's latest as it appeared in the Montreal Gazette ...
Not only is Faithfull's latest better than her last release, the uneven *Kissin Time*, it could have been poised to take its place with her oft-acknowledged career highlight, *Broken English*(1979)
Unfortunately, however, the momentum of the first three tracks - two written by PJ Harvey and a Faithfull-Nick Cave collaboration - is not sustained.
Daman Albarn's Last Song and Harvey's No Child of Mine manage to keep the haunting atmosphere, but they fail to amaze in the same way, banishing thoughts of a career highlight.
Still, this raw, underproduced effort hits more often than it misses, sounding like a soundtrack for a film about obsession that ends badly.
Faithfull should be proud - and her contemporaries should take note.

Dr. Dr. - Here's another review which could be of interest to you since I seem to recall you love that band ... Tim BoothBone James the band) was always a little vague, diffuse, and therefore unnecessary to me. Perhaps that is worth a reappraisal, given Tim Booth's compelling solo album
The James singer has a relaxed, sexy earthiness, like your worldly friend with an active heart.
There is real rhythm and space in the songs, in his state-of-the-world/soul/libido reports.
Think of him as Bono without that band sharper edge. *Bone* could be this year's *White Ladder*, and deserves to be

Thanks for the reviews, Phil, and in Tim Booth’s case, thanks for the reminder! I’d heard somewhere that his record was going to be released on this side of the Atlantic, pleased to see that it’s already upon us.
So, at least we know Tim is not going to suffer the same fate as Mark Seymour (Hunters and Collectors) – cult-ish (in the North American context) but much beloved band breaks up, lead singer goes solo, market indifference and total obscurity ensues...

Ndy-The Game album is mixed to me so far(his voice isn't really moving me,it's kinda half-ass haven't heard the entire album yet) I enjoy how Kanye and Timbaland didn't use their signiture production styles and just let him flow espically on "Dreams".Dre frustrates me he keeps giving his best work to others and continues to shelve "Detox" yet again
How 'd you get a copy of the New LCD soundsystem, now I'm jealous? "Daft Punk is Playing at My House"(early nominee for best song title this year)
Tommorow I'll post my early thoughts on M83,Bright Eyes,Chmical Bros.
Weeping-I think the album out of your list to suprsie us will be The Raveonettes no longer a duo
Trail of the Dead- I think it's a bit too ambitious for them, but it was a worth a shot and I enjoy the majority of the album however If I was to grade it early on it's a 6 or 7 RIGHT NOW,but I really want to see them attempt certain songs live if you really liked Source Tags+Codes it's worth a listen before you buy The DVD is fantastic with the MGR yelling about "You can't keep breaking instruments,no company is going to provide them if you destroy them"
Scottsy- The New Doves single "Black and White Town is a tremendous follow-up to "Caught By The River"(which never was a hit in the staes for some strange reason) I put Doves in that elite European bands class 1.Radiohead 2.Muse 3.Doves
Dr. Drum- The Low album is getting KILLED by all the indie outlets because it's not what THEY want or Expected,I guess Low's not allowed to try to do something different, I'm still waiting to hear it though
