11. Andrew Bird - Andrew Bird and the Mysterious Production of EggsI saw him with Bowl Of Fire at a show at the Cultural Center a coupla years ago...pretty nice straight-ahead jazz show. But listening to his discs leaves an impression that 'jazz' isn't exactly where his talent ends... Did you like 'The Swimming Hour' at all? Hopefully you did hear it... Pretty much an 'all-over-the-place' disc like this one's suppsed to be... ~ ...and I just saw there's another disc betw this 'Eggs' disc and the Swimming Hour, called 'Weather Project'(2003) which is reviewed pretty damned ecstatically....shit, missed it! www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:wlf4zff3eh4k

Quick Thoughts on New Singles This Week
The White Stripes- "Blue Orchird" WOW someone really liked that Death From Above 1979 album, because all I hear is "Romantic Rights" thru Jack White's howling, still a strong follow-up
Oasis- "Lyla" I like it/I hate it I really can't make up my mind I will say this it's nowhere near as bad as most of the last lead singles from the past 2 albums(Go let it Out/Hindu Times)
Foo Fighters- "Best of You" Starts out as slow as the worst 3 doors down track, then builds to a collapse of sound that makes you wanna pump your fist, strongest lead off a Foo Fighters album yet
Gorrilaz- "Feel Good INC. I can't get the hook out of my office it's a hot key in studio already,de-la feels in for Del and it's got sucj a great production it can flip from form Dance track to sad british harmony
Coldplay- "Speed of Sound" ZZZZZZ what oh I just kept waiting for something to happen and all I heard was a b-side to "Clocks" still wanna hear the album
DMB- "American Girl" Not anything special next
Bruce Springsteen- "Devil's Dust" I prefer Nebraska/Ghost Bruce to E-street Bruce so I obviously like this a lot

My top 20 of 2005 so far: 14. Thunderbirds are Now! - Justamustache 12. Antony and the Johnsons - I am a Bird Now Yes yes yes yes yes yes. A couple months back that Antony & the Johnsons album was all I listened to for a couple weeks. I've cooled on it some, but mostly just because I've been in a more rocking mood. This.... fuckin' rocks though. Saw them for the gajillionth time last Friday, and they keep getting better and better. And the album rules. "Steal from the future, not from the past". Shit yeah.

I hope the new Corgan is as great as I hope. If others aren't incredibly impressed with it, and who knows if they will be or not, I might be since Pisces Iscariot is my favorite Pumpkins album and some others consider it one of their lesser albums.

Yeah, i have the same hopes with regards to the new Corgan album... I hope he is in top form songwriting wise, because he can pen a mean tune, I always thought.
Lets face it... critics are going to give him a bathing... he is a nineties big name alt - rock artist, and critics have those guys in their sights lately. If they aren't playing retro - rock or rehashed new wave, and creating new and interesting progressions of their nineties material, while still exploring beyond new borders... they are going to cop it... sad really.
I think Corgan's new stuff will be great personally,,, loved the singe I heard the other day, sounded like all the best bits of Adore and Machina combined... and both of those albums, although derided, had excellent parts... I got the feeling that when synthesized together, something special could be made.
Hopefully this is it! :-)
