Good job people!!!
But I will admit - I am the WORSE ex-smoker ever. I will even shut the elevator door on people at work if I know they are coming back from a smoke break. Bitches STINK! I can't believe I walked around stinking like that all those years.
Keep it up, one day at a time, you ALL can do it if you really want to!!!

Yeah, people smoking around you makes it difficult. You occasionally want to grab that smoke and say "what the hell, it's only one", but then you remember it never is just one. I gotta say though I'm glad I haven't become one of those annoying born-again non-smokers who trash smokers complaining about the "smell". If anything, I'm a little envious of the smell. It just stinks when it's on peoples breath or on their clothes. btw, I'm convinced the whole "nicotine addiction" is BS. At least with me it is. I'm pretty sure it's the gesture/habit we become addicted too, and not the nicotine itself. Which is why patches and gum have never worked with me. For the first few smoke-less days all I did was chew regular gum and eat a little more than usual. OK, a LOT more. But I'm finally starting to control that now that urges are almost entirely gone. And no, Philip Morris did not pay me to say this. I'm with you on this. Nicotine addiction is bullshit.

I'm gonna be one of those bad ex-smokers in that I'll encourage others to smoke. If they wanna do it, go for it.

Nice Matt. Good idea. I'm gonna start telling kids that they look really cool when they smoke. I'll tell teen guys it'll help get them laid and the gals that it makes them look way hotter. I got this one chick at work who I used to smoke with who's complaining to me now that she misses taking ciggy breaks with me and I should just have one on occasion. Bitch. Instead of encouraging me to continue, she's telling me to light up again. Fucking fat cow.

Yeah, it's obvious she's jealous. In a way, it's a good thing. It just makes me realize how awful people can be. Just because she can't do it, everyone else must fail at it too. And it's not just her, she just happens to be the only one who's open about it. I get a similar vibe from several other smoker friends of mine too. The only people who are really encouraging me to keep at it are non-smokers and other ex-smokers.

The only people who are really encouraging me to keep at it are non-smokers and other ex-smokers. That's fucked up -- do you think those smoker friends are envious? Curious too, what's the opinion towards quitting with smokers: do you think that inside or at the back of the head, most really would like to quit, OR do most smokers not really care about ever quitting. Always seemed that among my smoker friends that the vast majority talked about quitting, though few tried.

They are mad/jealous that they don't have the strength to quit.
In this day and age - EVERYONE knows they should quit so that's a non-issue.
People are selfish.

Don, I think that most smokers who are regular, long term smokers would like to quit. I think with many it's a matter of not wanting to face the pain or find they can't. Up until just a dew years ago it was so encouraged and it seems like everybody smoked, almost everywhere. Not so these days. It used to seem so "natural." As for me, it was something I started and had done for so long -- I couldn't really feel like there was a time I didn't smoke, couldn't really remember not smoking. But I must say, I did enjoy it most of the time, and I miss it.
Kool and Matt, you might have a different make-up than most people, because nicotine is indeed hardcore addictive to most. Intensely.

I am a little skeptical. I think once a person makes up their mind they can quit the habit. I am skeptical of anything that a multitude of companies make a shitload of money off of. I don't doubt it's addictive, but I highly doubt it's like heroin (which is usually what I hear it compared to).

Over two weeks since I quit. Not a drag, not a drag.

I had to pop in here and check the start date to see when I quit. So, it's been about two years and three months. Seems a lot longer. I smoked a cig on July 4. We had a bunch of people over for cookout and fireworks, etc., and there was a lot of smoking. I finally asked somebody for one. Gee, it wasn't such a thrill as I had sort of hoped. And I didn't have to rush out and buy a pack. Haven't really thought about it much. I was a little drunk, though. No, I think I've knocked it.

i saw your name on here last night in this smoking thread, and i'm thinkin' 'oh fuck, he's smoking again..'
i didn't have the time to post anything, but man, my apologies for thinking you might've broken down and given in.
you also had some other breathing issues back when you dropped the nasty habit too, didn't you?
how's the rest of 'the organism' doing?
not meaning to pry too deeply...more for the cigarette related good stuff that you've helped by staying off the weed.
AND your pocketbook! shit, i was behind someone at the gas station a couple of weeks ago and this guy bought a carton of cigarettes - 64 fucking bucks!
holy shit!
