If you quit smoking, you'll get fat (which is a fate worse than death). So, for the love of all that is Holy, don't do it!

Tho....there's nothing sadder than a fat person who ALSO still smokes, innit?
Cigarettes as weight control? And in the event THAT fails initially, there's the strong possibility of chic-ly wasting away through any one of a variety of consumptive diseases.
'Worse than death' you say?
Sorry. That's quite a goofy rationale.

Kool, when you're ready, you'll know it. Not that you're ever "ready" but something like that.
Black is the only way to drink coffee.
Glad you're hanging in there, Glenn. And going "natural" at that. Man, I could never get past a few hours that way. If this works out like I think it might, I'll do a testimonial for Chantix free. It really seems to knock out the cravings. Damn miracle drug or something.
I've had three smokes today. I... have... one... left... Not getting any more.
I'm not worried about my weight - I'm 5'10" and 140 lbs. with a 32" waist. I can afford it. I'm sure Proud was kidding, but yeah, smoking is worse than being quite significantly overweight.
Every now and then, it will hit me though - DAMN, I need a cigarette! I wonder how many you can smoke a day and it be virtually "harmless." One? Two? Three? Alas, that's dangerous thinking for me.

Thanks for the support folks! I'll be curious to see how everyone's progress goes. I was pretty good this weekend and had 4 cigs in three days (including Friday night). Last night I had some brews and lit up like 3 smokes. One thing I'm trying is just smoking half the cig, then when I want another I smoke the other half. That way I'm smoking just one as opposed to two, two instead of 4, etc...

I'm the exception to the quit smoking and put on weight rule. When I smoked, I also drank more. My waist was 26 inches. Now it's settled at 24". I haven't felt especialy healthy with all the commuting I've done over the past year, but overall I have more energy and am more active. Therefore, the weight stays off.
If you quit smoking whilst living a pretty sedentiary lifestyle, then I guess it can be dangerous. You just have to find something to do other than replace the cigarette with a cake. No problem for me, I'm far too vain to be fat.
I still get the odd craving, but when I think about actually smoking one, it makes me feel kind of sick.

My first completely cigarette-free day was yesterday. So far, so good. It's not easy. The worst is when I forget that I've quit and reach for my pocket for one... Oh, yeah, I quit. Shit.
Paul, I didn't know you were trying either! How you doing, Glenn?
