Well, I was out drinking again last night, and had two cigs...see the key for me is the drinking thing. I don't smoke at work (anymore), and I don't smoke at home - less the green shit - but put me in a bar, give me a few beers / bourbon & ginger ales and I want a damned cigarette. Again, my philosophy last night was to only smoke halves. So I'd light up, smoke half, then put it out. When I wanted another, I smoked the other half. So I smoked 4 times last night, but only had two cigs. Tonight, I'm supposed to go to some happy hour, and in the downstairs part of the bar where we're going, they don't allow smoking, so hopefully I'll be alright.
The drinking thing is getting kinda crazy though - tonight will be three nights in a row!!! I'm not getting completely shit faced or anything, and I'm normally home by midnight (I wake up at 8am so that gives me a solid 8hrs of sleep) but still....drinking 4 or 5 nights out of the week probably isn't all that good for me.

Just about through Day 2 nicotine free. This afternoon got pretty hard for a while. I know the Chantix is the only thing saving me.
Paul - If the half-smoke thing works for you, that's great. I've tried various ways to "trick" myself over the years, and I always seemed to be able to see through my own trickery and defeat the usefulness of it. Fortunately, beer and other "relaxing" agents do not seem to aggravate the cravings, but I won't be going into any bars anytime soon! That would be curtains, I'm afraid.
Dolly, how long have you and Jllm been shut of them?

Made it through last night with just a half a cig! Alright, I think I'm on the verge...within the last month I've probably cut back on the smokes by about 65 -75%

My hat's off to all you guys who are quitting smoking. I'm glad I never tried the stuff, as I'm pretty sure the only way I'd be able to quit would be in a coffin. I know that it took a heart attack to get my dad to give up his cigars (which he'd switched to from cigarettes back in the early sixties or so -- long before I was born).

Thanks man. It's tough in a way, but it's also not that bad! I mean really, the things don't really do anything for you except give you bad breath, lung cancer, heart disease, wrinkly skin, etc...I mean you don't even get a buzz, and they smell horrible. However, now and then, a good drag from a smoke is a damn fine thing.
Another thing I do sometimes is smoke the real deal stuff like Pall Mall un-filters. My reckoning behind that is I actually end up smoking less and I taste more tobacco and not chemicals (like Marlboro Lights - one of the absolute worst IMHO). If I have a Pall Mall, I just puff more than inhale, and I'll have less b/c they're so strong. If I smoke a Camel Light, I'll smoke more, it taste more chemically, and I inhale a lot deeper. So I don't know, I reckon I have some odd logic, but in my mind it's working and helping me smoke less (the half a smoke philosophy too).

Dolly, how long have you and Jllm been shut of them?
3 years in August for me, Strat - and 3 in January for JLLM. Pretty good going I'd say.
Good luck anyway one and all.

Thanks, Maarts - we'll take all the strength anyone cares to wish! Good luck getting your sis to. Nobody will ever do it until they're ready. This, I know.
Hats off to you and the divine-resembling one, Dolly!
Day 6 today. Weekend was bad - KayJay and I were hard on each other. Yesterday was real bad. They pissed me off at work. Hrrumph... Thought I was gonna cave.
But today was OK - I even forgot about it for awhile. Maybe some kind of rebound effect from yesterday. I'm on the edge and sometimes I feel like I'm hanging by a thread. But I've kept my resolve thus far.
You still hangin' in, Glenn, Kool, and Paul?

Moi? Yeah, I'm hanging in just fine. In fact, I'll tell you all about it once I get back in 5 mins. I'm going outside for a smoke.

I've actually cut down... a little. I've gone from smoking a pack a day to buying a pack [almost] every second day. I think I'll do the Amp thing and set a date to quit. Maybe I'll make it my birthday which is next month.

strat-im cool man. Im pissed off sometimes but I feel better. A female coworker today asked me why I was being such a "dickface" last week. I cant believe I hurt her feelings. I explained what was going on--I must have said something.
How do you feel strat? Do you feel good? bad? coughing up strange shit? Food tasting better? Breathsavers man. I got the freshest breath on the planet.

I've decided to kick-the-butt habit as well. Have two packs left from the carton. The chantix did absolutely nothing for me other than I cut back some. Lately though its like taking a placebo. Am smoking nearly as much on chantix as without it. No, I'll go the nicotine gum for the first month or two then go with big-red.
Sunday will be my first day smoke free.
Congrat's to all yous that are quitting.

I've tried to quit smoking so many times and I keep failing. Ugh.

I've tried twice. Both times with nicotine gum for the first month. First time went 5 months. 2nd time went 6 months. Hopefully this 3rd time will be the charm.

Seems like we have a nice Quitters Club here together- hope you can make that transition to completely quit smoking per day, Kool and Pat. All the best!
Glenn- isn't it wonderful you can actually blame your 'crankiness' on nicotine deprivation?
