It's all everyone I know is talking about
"Where's The Frances' The Mute Track?"
My one sleeve promo didn't list the title track, but when I bought a copy it included a lyric listing on the inside case for this believed hidden track
The ANSWER
after calling my Universal Rep.( who sends me the promos) he explained the band obviously wanted the title track on the album, but due to it's length and packaging deadline it simply didn't fit on a already 77 min album
Frances The Mute is 14 min long and is availble for download at your usual outlets(most fans claim it's the best track that should have been on the album, judge for yourself) As well as part of the special vinyal release later this month(all the more reason to buy those records) IT IS NOT the conclusion of the album it's a middle track right after "The Widow"
There is right now plans for a single for the Widow to include the Frances The Mute, however I was told this will not be released till the end of March in the UK/Japan So if your an I-Tunes subscriber you have an advantage of completing otherwise it's impossable on 1 cd

I know not everyone will care about discussing the story elements but I thought at least for a short time this would make for interesting discussions on ideals and theories reguarding Mars Volta

I dunno about all that, but I do know that Mars Volta played a vital part in Six Degrees of Separation at work the other night, when I tagged The Chili Peppers with Judas Priest.
It went:
Chili Peppers=Flea in Mars Volta = At the Drive-In with Iggy Pop = Iggy Pop with Sum 41 = Sum 41 with Rob Halford
We got bored with Kevin Bacon, then we got bored with actors in general, so we started doing bands...no clear rules, but it worked...
Probably buying Bonnaroo tickets with my graduation money (depending on how much I have saved up for my honeymoon by then) so I'll be checking out MV then...

This is getting silly with me I had lucid dreams that I was the main character in the deloused album last night
(due to reading the complete story deloused was based on in a 13 page booklet that explains what is occuring more in depth,it's free to download)
I hate prog themed music
But I'm LOST in emails and the comatorium message boards about the theories of what the hell Frances The Mute is truely about if you have no clue what I'M TALKING ABOUT
FEEL Free to visit
thecomatorium.com
Anybody who has adventourus Music tastes I warn you Once you buy, download,or even read the lyrics to the album You will join the rest of us in this ridiculous debate
Here's an example of the theories were working out and yes some have facts and aren't just invented guesses
1.Frances The Mute is not the main character but the mother of the main character and all the track/song names are the basis of the story
A-Vismund Cygnus- 25 yr old HIV drug addicted prostitute or drug dealer who is searching for his mother, and gets his revenge(mothers death) through sex or drugs(main character)
B-The Widow- Various theories either paying for sex or drugs with Cygnus there or even is really Frances The Mute(who in theory is Cygnus' MOTHER)
C- L"via- Sister of Frances,Aunt of Cygnus who provides clues to what horrible crime took place against Frances or another theory knows the truth but won't help Cygnus and sadly meets her dmise as well
D-Miranda- Mother of Frances and L'Via,grandmother of Cygnus Tells the past story of the crime while predicting the future of Cygnus has tried to make things right but has failed due to the fear of another crime will take place
E-Cassandra Gemini- Complete Mystery but most believe this 1. The name signifys Prophesy and Curse 2. She is Cygnus Twin Or Cygnus Murder Consumed Alter-Ego(Revenge) 3.Cygnus suffers from split personalties which is where this female side of his idenity(Cassandra) orginates through either DRUGS,OR SEX she takes over
F-Frances The Mute- She is Cygnus Mother who this is all possable in theory 1.The Church took her baby(Cygnus) 2.She was raped and killed by the church for trying to protect her baby 3.They forced her to have an Abortion due to the father was a Priest(the abortion creates a early birth for Cygnus into the Church, who he blames for his mother's death )
I think if I list more it ruins it for you
But let's see what we do know for sure 1.This story is loosely based on the death of Jeremy Ward their electronic wizard on tour who was addicted to Heroin and was searching for his mother 2.The Diary of a stranger that Jeremy had in his car they discovered is the basis for much of the story, but impossable to prove this
The Theme of The Cycle of Abuse whether Sexual or Drug Related dominates the narrative and artwork
Murder,Church Cover Ups,Hate Obessed Prostitutes, the importance of Family
THIS Never gets Boring(Well thought out amazing concept that only competition in my opinon is deloused or the WALL) But I can't think about anything else when I'm hearing this and that bothers me

'bout time some1 put a voltaboard up. (nice goin patten) 1 thing: I'm still...digesting.
My next project is to dutifully transcribe, then translate, the lyrics in Espanol of L'via L'vaquez (so far my favorite song).
As I am fluent in Spanish, this will not be much of a problema. It's just capturing those tiny, crucial, hard-to-hear parts that will keep me occupied.
I will be sure to post my findings, herein.
Hasta la proxima ves, hijos de las piedras revolviendo~!

Cool. I OWN The Wickerman -- one of the best, most effective, literate, and intelligent horror movies ever to be released, IMO. A chilling film, and engages the viewer from start to finish. Highly recommended that you seek out the UNCUT version -- it is worth it.
Of course, the lyrics to L'via are printed on the sleeve *D'oh!* . . . and they're close enough (just a few minor changes in the way Cedric actually sings em). So I suppose I don't have to bother with the dutiful translating, and all.
I've long loved the paintings of Max Ernst.
Sweeet.

Well, what I can do, is take those "L'via" lyrics, and translate them from Spanish into English, here, for y'all's perusal. Just give me a few days.

I just have to say that I heard "The Widow" on the radio and I was just kind appalled at how much dislike I had for the song considering the attention the band's first album got. Any interest in checking into the band was killed by that song.

My love for that song is almost indescribable. I was immediately seduced by the frictionless bassline . . . and then Cedric's sinuous vocals captivated my ear and would not let it go . .. . --is that the song with flea's beautiful trumpet solo-?- 'cuz that part is like an epiphany for me, a release akin to an orgasm in slow motion. The majesty married with sorrow in that song is one heady brew I can never get enough of.

(Although, I must say, I did not particularly care for the "live acoustic" version of "The Widow", which is the B-side of the Title Track just released yesterday)
HOWever . . . (speakiing of the Title Track) . . .I just heard it for the first timie, yesterday. Below are my jumbled, raw thoughts about it:
WOW . . . . 1st off, that beginning . . .(obviously a perfect extension of The Widow's insane keyboard ending (a piece of music which I hated @first listen, but which has grown on me to become truly emblematic of some deep, inexplicable part of me now...I wouldn't dream of fast-forwardinig through it)... & tho' I'm willing to admit the extensive, agonizingly off-tune, sporadic nature of the intro IS too much for many out there, that somehow endears me to it more, and furthermore, becomes essential when considering the context of the remaining scope of one of the album's primary themes: mAdneSs. I loved the manner in which the song FTM gradually evolves & blossoms into a full-fledged piece of melody, TMV are great with that (creating Order from Chaos).
To me, the song FTM (known as the "decoder" to real fans) reveals the pitch black heart of the album's central concept, which in a key moment of revelation (towards song's end) suddenly made me realize that the album FRANCES THE MUTE is, in one important aspect, a sort of variation on the serial-killer concept, in effect, a bonafide blossoming horror flower.
The album is at once tragic, beautiful, insane, horrifying, and hopeful, all wrapped up backwards into a spring-bud on a rain-drenched thorned stem, offered as an organic movement for us to dissect as each darkening petal opens up to reveal chrome surgical needle-teeth at it's center.
I am trying to discern the cast of characters, and although I realize the following interpretation is bound to be wrong on several technicalities, I thought I'd offer them up anyhow & resolve the technicalities later.
The whole seriously demented work involves 3 women (Frances, Miranda, L'via) involved in a decadent urban environment with drug dealers, at least one rape if not 2, a baby borne of this rape (Cygnus) and a Witness to a horrifying murder (is Cygnus the murderer?) which alludes to Frances being "mute" for having witnessed it. Somehow these events have come full circle, perhaps intimating the birth of a vicious cycle of madness, rape, and murder. It occurred to me that Frances may be a Nun (which would further cast light on the necessity of remaining "mute"), but I have yet to confirm or deny this.
What I do know is, Frances The Mute is the most insane & beautiful album I have had the pleasure to work at digesting since . . . *drumroll, please* . . . fucking eVer.

Although I am SOOOO thankful that thorny made me a tape, I have to put in my two cents now that I've heard The Mars Volta. To put it simply, I'm not fond of the vocals AT ALL. Some of the music is good but I can't get past the vocals.
