Not a surprise, Melon. I put Televators on your mix first, seeing as how I feel it is the most accessible TMV song. Listen to it a few times. Cedric's vocals should grow on you . . . like a mold you gain nourishment from. At first, you're like "WTF is this growing on my skin?!" And then you're all "...AAAAaaaahhhhhhhhhhh, yessss...." That's one of the singular, striking aspects of TMV: they are a demanding band, not easily digested. Everything about them screams "Run Away!" in a tangled cluster of fucked up vocals, drumming, and instrumentation. Only by letting go of your own ego can you stand a chance at getting assimilated into their musical genius. And should you make that sacrifice -- you will discover levels of beauty & tragedy heretofore unknown. And you will revel in it.
But it takes focus and commitment. Difficult music never rewarded so well.

But, while we're on the subject of recording artists who use Spanish on their records, run immediately to your nearest record store and pick up the new BECK album, "Guero". It is a sure-shot of soul medicine, a vaccine against depression, an antidote for the radio, a blues worn hiphop shuffle, a diamond in the rough & if that ain't enuff it's a roll call to reason, a dance to mad season, a tribute to the apocalypse and a real beaut that rocks a bit. If you're feelin' somewhat detached best snatch it up quick, it'll do the trick you see cuz unlike Tee Em Vee Beck's grooves are nice & Eazy.

Ok I have almost finished my breakdown on the entire album with the help of friends I'll start by posting the "Frances The Mute" Interp. when I get a chance
Here's The main theme of what I have gathered thru research
Cygnus and another character whether you call him/her Miranda or Cassandra it doesn't really matter,IT'S STILL A MAN who has a hatred for MEN,and uses a FEMALE NAME(no evidence of a transvestte or transsexual is given)
2 Drug addicted, sexually abused prosititutes who know each other but Cygnus is searching for his family and Miranda/Cassandra knows their history and tells Cygnus what happened TO HIM Cygnus confuses reality with fantasty and believes they are TWINS with the same background.
Much like "Memento" Cygnus keeps reinventing his orgin to support his addiction, and "The Widow" is the fullfilment of his own prophecy by killing HIS REAL MOTHER Frances The Mute is Miranda's mother who turned her back and kept SILENT when Miranda was abused by priests either her biological father or her step-father(unclear?) Cygnus continues to have converstations with Miranda warning Cygnus what he is doing is the same abuse he suffered All the Narratives columinate with "Cassandra Gemmini" without giving the entire conclusion away
It all ends with a phone call that's never answered in 13 seconds and "Frances The Mute" is suppose to be the first track because it gives you Miranda's story which ties in to Cygnus which "Vismund Cygnus" opens the album

interesting
do you know why they'd put the title track ftm as the 4th, after the widow -?
man I was so disappointed on March 22nd when the triple deluxe LP on vinyl was NOT released
April 26th
chompin @tha bit
In the meantime. . . .yeah I cannot seem to get enuff of this album . . .I personally enjoy it a lot more than Deloused. FTM is a trip. Even that last, twisted/insane carnival keyboard ending of The Widow, to my ears, is hideously beautiful . . . I look forward to it each and every time the album plays, rather like a junkie anticipating his next rush . . .
That's amazing patten that you figured all that out. . . of course the wonderful thing about real art is how the viewer/listener can walk away with their own interps . . . although I do not dispute that there must be an "actual", dynamic, concrete meaning and plot to the scope of FTM, I also happen to think that Bixler Zavala's lyrics are opaque/crystal clear enough to lend themselves to deeper, more intuitive interps
Hence, the day I finally feel I've plundered the depths and reached that ocean floor hidden from our view, I will write up my own psychotic reactions and ideas as to what FTM means to me . . . if, of course, ever my acoustic submersible manages to reach such depths without imploding from the pressure...

At the very least, we've got the phenomenally charged music to contend with, as well as Cedric's piercing and beautiful vocals . . . i.e, FTM can sure as hell be enjoyed to the fullest without so much as the listener EVER being privvy to the "real" goings-on referenced by the complex lyric matrix.
Just lean back in your chair with the headphones in your ears, and let the glorious compound of musicians take you away to realms ne'er before braved, and revel in the exquisite ecstasy of such strange wine being poured through your brain . . .

The 4th track where did you see that in all interviews Omar says it's the begining of the album but as my interp. will show it jumps around in story-mode as well No wonder I couldn't buy the vinyl version I looked for a weekend to for it. Most of the theroy(I can't take credit for the whole thing) is based on what Omar has claimed in interviews what the moral and purpose of the story is "We don't want it be literal and there are things that are too personal and we don't even want to share or talk about, However The story of the album is about ADDICTION AND ABANDONMENT,as to what extent or if the story is true is left up to the listener's interpt.
most important part of this interview
You learn so much about people from their roots,if I meet my friends' mothers and fathers,I learn so much more about them That's a BIG ASPECT of the story, but if there is a moral to this story it's
"It's the main character's discovery of the meaning of Family. HE learns that family is the people around you that care about you and that YOU CARE about NOT Necessarily PEOPLE your tied to by BLOOD" ---Omar discussing Frances The Mute through Mars Volta's website

The Mars Volta- Frances The Mute My interptations(with help from friends and fellow Mars Volta Fans)
Part 1: Frances The Mute
This is part of what's being called The "TWIN THEORY"
Cygnus is the main character,But there is a 2nd main character who is a friend of Cygnus who we will call Miranda(although we know due to the lyrics this 2nd character is cleary a MALE but he does hate being a man hence the name)
The previous Cygnus theory is actually Miranda's Story
Miranda- an incest survivor who after many years "SANG" his story to assorted relatives and they did not believe him, his Mother Frances witnessed his rape or an inproper interaction between his molester. Miranda asked for help, but Frances kept her silence (hence MUTE) Miranda then ran away, wound up a drug addict who prostitutes himself and things have been going to shit.
Frances The Mute is the begining of the story according to Omar and follows the last lines of "Cassandra"
Frances The Mute
(Bells Ringing) Miranda is overdosing just as he did at the end of "Cassandra",he has tried to call home, but nobody is answering the phone
It's been 13 seconds Since You all last said I've become the apparition You predicted for my death
Miranda waits 13 seconds before finally giving up,hangs up the phone(the 13 seconds could be longer dissorted by drugs) He's realizing he's nervous and doesn't realize the prophecy predicted by his family upon leaving home he would die. become the apparittion- Living Ghost/Junkie(Burroughs)-sgriska
You said that flirting Brings you closer to the end You can bait into the water But You'll never get the hint
Miranda has been dabling in drugs His family also believes his own actions caused his crime, much as the drugs do now This line of reasoning hasn't worked (like a "wary fish"-sg) They however have no clue of the pain he's going through
And like a stain of bricks goes dancing by your head
The associations of Guilt(scarlet letter remains type) were not taken seriously before he left his home
Plucked from an ice-box Grafted on my skin
(Icepick references appear throughout a double meaning of a phalic symbol for drugs or sex) Miranda uses drugs(syringe/ice-pick) to forget about his sexual abuse (when you put water in an icebox,it hardens up,implies it's not getting hard on it's own)
My coat has hid the marks Mink hits the shovel fix
Miranda has hidden his "track marks" and these drugs drive me closer to the grave
Near The sway of Pendulums (edgar alen poe reference to The Pit/Pendulum) Deep in the Pit
Boar Abrasions and a Kiss
Miranda was beaten, possably raped at home he has turned to prostitution to support his addictions
She said I'll never let them hurt you I'll never let them in
Frances vowed to protect him,but failed to do so(due to drug use could be a fantasy)
What you took from me is mine What is mine i'll never give
Miranda has had a lot taken from him(innocense, family, sexuality, trust) So he'll never TRUST again, but was was "taken" he has no intent to "give" but selling it is possable option.
Mascara glass in the molar weeds molar weeds- rotting teeth common among heroin addicts He's smoking crack,by thinking about his mother's abandonment hence "stain of mascara on the glass"
Her ash a serpent infancy
Frances smoking(poss. pot) is what lead to Miranda's conception in the first place
His eye patch pussed a gap of sand
Miranda's father's condom broke, his mother is dry implies frigid
Into a shrine a sedative
His father shot sperm in Frances(much like miranda shoots drugs into his arm) Miranda's father is a wild man who' looking to settle down
More and More the dirt collects
Things are getting worse, harder to figure out

Frances the mute continues
You'll never find her body now her closet festered in a secret air Blonde underneath blacked hair
Frances has secrets, conceals her blonde hair with dye she hides to protect the idenity of Miranda's true father Forshadows the violent fantasy to come(see below)
He never knew the colony gestated in his bed
The Man Frances married was unaware that Frances had slept with everybody and the resulting offspring could belong to anyone from her past
Mingle with the Carnivores You've something both in common now
This begins the Robot Voice(just as in "Cassandra") Miranda's Concious Voice that sees past the drugs and bull-shit and tells him what's really happening, and warns about patterns he's repeating
You were raised by aggresive, abusive people BUT you act just like them forshadows the "Become like one of the others" passage of "Cassandra"
Till one day his wasted breath swollen throat and karma debt set foot inside a parlor to find her drunken by receipts
The Concious Voice is pointing out the way Miranda treats himself "breath wasted, throat swollen,"- No one believes him He is driven by guilt over his own abuse He remembers his mother is a whore(at least figurative) and finds her drunk by her ill gotten gains(parlor-massage parlor) Frances is also an alcoholic which later becomes a character point (Sgriska- points out "Interesting his mother may be a whore as he is but he doesn't see the connection")
he held her by the ankles gutted at the nave yes gutted and depraves he tied a rope around her legs and let her hang for seven days
The Attack on Frances has strong sexual overtones Grabbed her by the ankles, gutts her at the nave By slicing through the womb he severs all connections to his mother Then Does It Again,Shocked he could do such a thing Then ties her up and leaves her to bleed to death just like Miranda's own past/present abusers (much like pig/boar references as a butcher leaves a pig to bleed before death)
This never happened But I saw You Leave and crawl into a bed of broken windows This never happened
The attack is Fantasy"this never happened" Although she did abandon him- "I saw you leave" She didn't protect him form the abuse, and she didn't tell the truth when Miranda finally sang And Frances Will "never be able to sleep well ever again"(forshadows "The Widow") Knowing her guilt in what happened to Miranda
END-- Frances the Mute-----

I take it that's a live bootleg of last Saturday's show -? Cool. *mum's the word* - - - - Finally acquired the much coveted VINYL VERSION of Frances The Mute. To my dismay -- I have yet to find a single human being who can corroborate the report I read online a few months back wherein it was stated with perfect clarity that a "Deluxe" Edition of Frances The Mute was to be released on vinyl March 22nd, and that each disc would be a different coloured vinyl, and that the title track Frances The Mute would be included in the tracklisting. So far, NO ONE, absolutely NOBODY from ANY music store, ANYWHERE, has ANY IDEA about this legendary, rumoured vinyl edition. I was somewhat put off by having to purchase this REGULAR edition at $24.99 (a good price -- it's just that I wanted to spend $$ on the Deluxe), because now if I do find out there is a multi-coloured triple-disc set including the title track -- I'm afraid that puppy'll sell for $40 or $50 -- and of course my regular LP version will become obsolete. I intend to cross that bridge by (possibly) trading in the regular LP for the Deluxe, should I ever finally track down said elusive beast. - - - - - - P.S. Any information you can find out about this Deluxe edition, pattentank, would be much appreciated.

Same Set just changed the order in Austin and Houston the last 2 shows
Thrusday- New Orleans FRIDAY- ATLANTA ;D ;D ;D
Hey Thorn GOOD NEWS
according to GSL(Gold Standard Labs who responsable for production of the vinyl records)
There is no such thing as a Deluxe as of right now
You bought the correct LP set
The Widow single(which contains Frances) WAS going to be included but the plan was changed hence the DELAY you spoke of trying to buy the vinyl earlier
Omar and Cedric didn't like the sequencing according to one of the webmasters I've been told (FTM was going to be 4th,as they claim it should be first) the Widow single comes with the decoder as well
SO for about $10 you look for the Green Cover Widow single on CD OR VINYL either @
1.Online(Import) 2.Record Stores(I was told but NONE of the Indies I know has it yet) 3.The Live Show Merchendise Table
