I hate the forced romance of Valentine's Day. Silly "holiday". I hate the girls who base how much they think their partner loves them by how big a bouquet/diamond/box of chocolates they get. I hate the people who think a day of spending a lot of money on cheap chocolates and overpriced flowers excuses their halfass treatment of their partner the majority of the time. Yes, I'm grumpy. Preach it! Every year, I tell myself I'm going to boycott the bastard holiday that is Valentine's. Yet every year I get guilted into buying shit. My intentions are good. Very good, if you ask me. I agree with what tunes said. I don't like to do things just because I'm supposed to. If I buy her flowers today, I'm doing so because it's expected of me, not because I want to make her happy. I want to get laid, that's why. And women wonder why they were traditionally thought to be inferior? Because they put too much importance in frivolous gifts on holidays that hold no real significance. So what do I do? I didn't buy her anything. She got me a shitload...and I'm just left staring, wanting to say, "I thought we had an unspoken agreement...that we wouldn't partake in this bullshit holiday? You know, because we have no money?" And then I get that look...ugh. Why? Why? Why? So now I've got to go buy flowers and other frilly pussy girl shit just to make her think that I love her. Why will that make her think I love her? I don't know! God damn it, I fucking hate Valentine's Day!

Worse yet, she's not even going to get anything until tomorrow. Which means...? I won't hear the end of this one for some time.

Geez ... Light a few candles in the bathroom ... Put hot water in the tub ... Wash her hair ... Wash her back ... Give her a massage ...
Make her tea ... Tell her you love her !!

Oh yeah...here's a short list of other things that are slightly pissing me off at the moment:
1. the whole concept of Modern-Retro...see the Killers, see Interpol, see the Bravery -I like Joy Division too, guys, but let's leave Ian to rest in peace, 'k? 2. the new Coldplay song -I don't know what it's called and I DON'T CARE! It's annoying. And I have to hear it every fucking day because God hates me, and he likes it when I get angry at Coldplay. 3. not smoking -I hate not smoking. I am only happy when I'm smoking. I'm going to get a job where all I have to do is smoke all day. I'll go clock out and I'll light up another because hell, I'm done for the day. Then I'll get home, and I'll smoke some more because I hate not smoking. 4. hospital/doctor's office secretaries -They called me again today to tell me that I owe them more money. I politely informed them, once again, that I'd already paid them. She politely responded with, "Well, sir, our computer shows that you still owe $55.00 for your January 24 visit." To which I say, (take into account this is the THIRD time I've explained this to a secretary there.) "Well, my computer in my head shows that you are a secretary at a doctor's office. You don't need to talk all condescending to me when you are but a secretary. Secretary. Anyone with fingers can be a secretary. That guy with the white clothes? He got a degree, I assume, in medicine. Not you. You're like a bouncer at a country line-dancing club." She told me she'd check again. She didn't call back. For the record, I know both that they took and that they deposited my check. The explanation I received before was that they didn't know what the check was for. Ummm...so they cashed it anyway? What if I was dumb enough to pay again? 5. Coldplay -I know I mentioned their knew song. But perhaps I didn't make it clear how much I loathe Coldplay. They're boring. That's all really. So boring, in fact, that I've considered buying their albums just as a sleeping aid. But then I slapped myself and said, "Wow, you're silly, sometimes." I hate Coldplay. I don't understand the adoration. Or the praise they get. And I don't want it explained. I just want them to go away. Quickly.

Well I had a fantastic V-Day!
The only thing I require is a nice card that has obviously been chosen with care. That makes me smile.
I don't bother with all the fake flouncy 'you must buy her flowers' shit either, but I agree with what Luke said - it's a silly holiday, but they all are, and it's what you make it. And we made it a good one ;D

That's NOT enough?? See, and that sounds like the absolute perfect gift to me. I'd far, far rather have that than a bunch of flowers that will wilt and die in a few days, or more chocolates or anything of the sort. A couple girls in my office were moping because their boyfriends/husbands didn't get them enough... felt like slapping them upside the head. Anyway, we're having sort of a 'Valentine's week', you could say. Went out for dinner on Monday night... last night was, well, a quiet one at home ... tonight we're going to see Walk the Line... tomorrow night we're going skating at the local park... and Friday night, well, I'm leaving town and leaving him here. See, that's the kind of thing that means so much more to me than getting stuff. Anyway, that's just me.

I'd think that flowers would be something you'd give to someone you don't like, because basically it's like saying 'Here, watch these die.'" --Demetri Martin I bet they're the type of girls who would complain that it wasn't enough no matter what the gift was. Girls like this need to tell their guys what they want ahead of time, because they have zero chance of getting it right on their own.

Girls like this need to tell their guys what they want ahead of time, because they have zero chance of getting it right on their own. You're absolutely right. They're also the kind of girls who want a great gift for two reasons - so they feel like their boyfriend/husband really loves them because he spent a lot of money... and so that they can brag to other people how much their boyfriend/husband loves them because he spent a lot of money. Ugh.

Rocky: That was deep "Heres some flowers--enjoy their death..." hahah! Can I use that? Beautiful.
FRAG: I am right there with you brother. I am trying to quit smoking--I hate not smoking man. I really do. I hate walking past smokers too cos that tobacco funk smells good to me! I do man, I hate not smoking, but I feel better....I can breathe. I was hardcore. I still am I guess. Still crawling out of my skin. My loved one and I got into a big fight on valentines day. She was right of course--but I was right too. I bought a card a few days previous and personalized it. Wrote about a mile on that card the night of the fight. Didnt give it to her til she was asleep that night--left it at the bedside. It was truly lame but I did not have stab wounds in the morning so all was well.....We made up the next morning.
yes, forced romance is silly as hell.
And any person who think their better half didnt buy them enough for Valentines Day--all I can say is --Im glad Im not their other half that let her down! Glad I dont have to go through all that unnecessary materialistic guilt. And knowing that the relationship was based on money--it is a factor of course but its how to manage it....
by the way--the sexual revolution is over! what did those moping ass women get their husbands/boyfriends? Im only halfway kidding!

Rocky: That was deep "Heres some flowers--enjoy their death..." hahah! Can I use that? Beautiful. Hey, no skin off my ass if you use it -- it's not my line. It's from Demetri Martin, a comedian I saw perform at a theater here in Chicago last weekend. He's probably best known for his "Trendspotting" segments on The Daily Show.

Time to move on now....
I hate people who constantly soapbox, without any attempt to be funny.
I hate people who tell you how to do something as they are in a position of authority over you, then blatantly do it in the opposite fashion.
I hate that the Kaiser Chiefs won 3 Brits Awards - even though the awards are a joke.
I hate rudeness, in every capacity.
I hate that Cadbury's creme eggs are smaller than they used to be.
I hate Doctor's receptionists.
I hate having to work through half-term - which I suppose I had better do now - late start as just emerged from a lie-in thanks to the other half's constant twitching keeping me awake and sending me downstairs. Still, at least I got to read my Kinks edition Mojo. Always a bright side....

That's funny, Rocky, I just raved about that dude's report on The Daily Show last night over on the TV board. That guy rules.
My wife got me a box of chocolates and a new pillow for Valentine's Day. The pillow is awesome, I really needed one, mine was pretty dead. Oh, and she made me a new necklace, it's rockin'.
Are there really girlfriends/wives out there who don't get their boyfriends/husbands shit for Valentine's Day? And they're getting stuff? Seriously, if that's the case, what a bunch of cunty whorefaces. It's not your fucking birthday, bitch, it's OUR holiday...

Cadbury cream eggs are smaller than they used to be?
I used to love those things, but they're way too sweet for me these days.
