More Leonard Cohen:
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel You were famous, your heart was a legend. You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception. And clenching your fists for the ones like us who are oppressed by the figures of beauty, you fixed yourself, you said, "Well never mind, we are ugly but we have the music"

Leonard Cohen was obessed, and i mean OBSESSED, with Nico. He threw himself at her many times, but she rejected him. It almost qualifies as stalker behaviour, which is what Nico probably saw it as.

But yet she slept with that Morrisson wanna be Iggy Pop! She could have done alot worse than Cohen, especially when he was younger. He looked like a hipper version of Al Pacino. Seriously.
My favorite lyrics so far these days are definitely from Nick Cave.

Nico was with everyone of importance in the 60s. She's what the regular folks call a slut. Not me though, i don't even recognize the word "slut" in my vocabulary... Nico just plain rocks ;D

I myself went through my own "Nico obsession" phase (of course).

Yeah, I'm with Rit. Nico's never done anything for me either. And did she really sleep with Iggy? I thought she slept with Morrison (and wasn't that supposed to be one of the marks on Jim's resume?).
But you want hotties from the sixties, Michelle Phillips from the Mammas and the Pappas and Grace Slick were both incredible.

I'd've been her mirror. Reflect what she was. In case she didn't know. I'd be her wind. Her rain. Her sunset. The light on her door. To show that she's home. I'd have liked to stand and shown that she was blind. If she thought the night had seen her mind, that inside she was twisted and unkind. I'd put down her hands. Because I saw her. I found it hard to believe she didn't know. The beauty she was. I would have been her eyes. A hand in her darkness. So she wouldn't be afraid. I'd be her mirror.

BTW, this is one of my ten favorite lyrics ever:
Now some folks are born into a good life and others get it any way, any how. Me, I lost my faith and I lost my wife them things don't matter that much to me now. 'Cause tonight I'll be on that hill with everything I've got. I'll be on that hill 'cause I can't stop. Where lives are on the line, where dreams are found and lost, I'll be on time and I'll pay the cost for wanting these things that can only be found in the darkness on the edge of town.
That verse blew me away the first time I heard it (back when I was 16), and it still floors me today.

Sorry Phil! Mine was Springsteen's epic Darkness on the Edge of Town. Thorn's last post was a rewording of I'll Be Your Mirror, which Nico sang on The Velvet underground and Nico.
Ya know, we all acknowledge the brilliance of the VU, but they were really lazy when it came to giving their LPs titles. The first album was effectively self-titled, and the third was explicitly so! Loaded is really the only creative one of the bunch ("loaded" with hits!). Even the posthumous live releases have been simply dates and locals. The first odds 'n' ends collection was simply another self-titled variation, though the follow-up was actually rather good (and nicely self-mocking: Another VU or Another View both work nicely). Peel Slowly and See is probably the best title of the whole lot.
I'm not saying I could've done better, but there are so few nits to pick with the Velvets ...

Guys ~ How 'bout some credits... ? Not so much a "rewording" as a "re-arranging" of POV. The original song was "I'll Be Your Mirror" and was penned by Lou Reed, here are the original lyrics as they appeared in the song: Velvet Underground - I'll Be Your Mirror Lyrics (Reed) " I'll be your mirror Reflect what you are, in case you don't know I'll be the wind, the rain and the sunset The light on your door to show that you're home When you think the night has seen your mind That inside you're twisted and unkind Let me stand to show that you are blind Please put down your hands 'Cause I see you
I find it hard to believe you don't know The beauty that you are But if you don't let me be your eyes A hand in your darkness, so you won't be afraid When you think the night has seen your mind That inside you're twisted and unkind Let me stand to show that you are blind Please put down your hands 'Cause I see you I'll be your mirror . . . "

Mums with push-chairs outside Sainsbury’s, tears in their eyes They’ll never buy a Gibb Brothers record again Their old 45s gathering dust With the birthday cards they couldn’t face throwing away Teenage winter coming down, teenage winter coming down[/color]
