Like I said, I will try again. Saturday Morning I will listen to it ALL. If i go insane and the pancakes get burned, the CD will take the blame and end up in the CD POUND.

Gang of Four weren't Joy Division knock-offs. Each band had their debut released in 1979, and to the extent that there were influences between the two, it was a matter of being contemporaries and competition (a la Beatles and Beach Boys in the sixties, or the Clash and Sex Pistols, etc.)
And Entertainment is a far, far better record than anything Joy Division ever released. Those guitars ...

I totally agree w/ every word in that last post, Ken. Andy Gill's guitar, damn. To paraphrase Bruce Springsteen, "That guitar just wouldn't stop screaming, so I tried to strangle it."
I gotta listen to Entertainment. Now.

I think Gang of Four quite possibly in hindsight has had a bigger impact on musicians of this decade than Joy Division has. I would even go so far to say that New Order is probably far more influential than JD. As much as I love my JD, I just to see that many bands apeing them successfully, but you can play me the Rapture and I will immediately know that those guys listen to a ton of Gang of Four.
Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah are terrible. TERRIBLE. It's the show that supposed to be the buzz at this year's SXSW, but most of the people I know can't stand them. I'm hoping their showcase is empty.
I can't understand the fandom of well.........it seems like this year there's about 1400 bands that just suck, listen to much 70s rock, and have lost the plot.

New Order is fairly influential. i tend to think of the *full* career of Joy Division as going from 1978 to about 1982 (upto New Order's Power Lies and Corruption album). As far as i'm concerned, that's a distinct era in the band's history, and just because Ian Curtis killed himself in 1980, doesn't mean the ethic of the band changed that much until '82.
Of course, with the release of "Blue Monday" and "Confusion" onwards, they were a different band...

I Love Gang of Four! I dont like their clones! Of course Joy division don't sound like Gang of Four and vice versa. Sorry I did not make myself more clear! But still, it was not that unclear...

These are different times we live in. Everything is a "buzz" on the internet. Look at the Arctic Monkeys--#1 in the UK? That means ASDA is carrying the shit! When I was there #1 meant when a Sonny and Cher compilation, or Toploader! The NME (read it: ENEMY) has hyped so much bullshit--but music lovers read it JUST TO FIND new music. Im trying to make a point but I really dont have the time tonight to make it work....
Fuzznuts: The Gang of Four and The Joy Division are two very different bands and I love em both (well, Gang of Four started to suck BAD--check out HARD--Its AWFUL! I double dawg dare your ass.)
