Okay, I don't know how well this will work out, but if it works, then it should be damn cool.
Here's what I want to do. Basically, everyone who wants to be in on this will make a mix CD in some particular theme. Then they'll draw the name of another poster to send it to. We can give it a try once, and if it works out and people want to keep doing it, then from time to time we can do it again.
So first things first: 1) Who wants in? 2) Anyone have any ideas for the first theme?
I have a few ideas for themes, but everyone should feel free to make some suggestions. Here are some ideas that I had: 1) Cover songs 2) Bands from your home town/state/country (depending on where you're from, you'll obviously have a different amount of music to work with--if you're from a big city, stick to the city, if you're from the middle of nowhere, then you probably could use your whole state) 3) Your personal all time top 15 (or whatever #) songs
Or, for the first one anyway, maybe just a random mix of your choice, just to ge the ball rolling.
I figure that if this goes on for a while, then we will probably venture off into some more clever themes than that (maybe songs on a particular subject or something). And I figure after the first time doing this, we can figure out just how often we want to do each next one (I want this to be a fun way for everyone to hear some cool music, not to be a burden on anyone, so not too often of course).
Anyway, what do you all think?

This is a cool idea. Not sure to what capacity I can get it rolling, but I'll do my best. I'll brainstorm on some themes...

I'm in! Nothing I like to do more than make a good compilation, and to be given a theme would make it even more fun, I think. Plus if we have people from different ends of the world contributing, it could make for some interesting exposures to different and new bands... so yeah, I say go for it, count me in!

Alright, it looks like we have a pretty good response here.
So should we go with a mix of your own city/state/locality for the first mix? Anyone else have any other ideas.
I think I'll go ahead and see if Strat-O will throw out a mass PM to direct some other people over here and we'll see how many we can get in on this.
I'll be happy to take care of the random picking of names to send the mixes to, and then once that's done, everyone should just go ahead and send their mailing info to whoever is making their mix.
I'll set this weekend as the cut off to get in on it, unless there still seem to be people trickling into this board at the end of the week.

Sounds good rocky! Given that there's a dearth of decent Adelaide / South Australian bands, I am going to take a broader interpretation of "locality" and try to serve up a whole heap of lesser known Australian stuff... I can still easily promise that NO ONE will have heard this stuff before... :-) Just make sure I don't draw Maarts if he joins in.... he's likely to be into exactly the same stuff as me... hahahaha!

I'll try to do it randomly, but yeah, the local band theme wouldn't be as exciting and worthwhile if people end up drawing someone from the same place as them, so if that happens I'll redraw a name for you.
Also, I think there should be a lot of freedom as far as what to put on there. Feel free to put on stuff that no one's ever heard, but if the best stuff from your city is stuff that people know, feel free to use that too if you want to. Making a good mix is the key, no matter how you get there. Make the mix you want to hear--someone else will want to hear it too.

On my last day of holidays today, and pretty broke too, so basically down to mooching about the house... might have to start digging about the place looking to make a tracklisting today...

When would this start? I'm about to move house next week so I'm not available in the next two to three weeks.
I am interested though.
