The "rock" scene here sucks ball, and I don't do the Zydeco thing, so count me out on this one. I'm still willing to participate later, though.

Here's some Louisiana stuff to consider. Louis Armstrong C-Murder Master P The Meters Randy Newman Louis Prima Eh...so maybe some old delta blues stuff? I didn't realize that a place with such a rich musical heritage in a couple areas was so lacking of good music in other genres. But seriously, I'm sure someone would love a few C-Murder songs or something.

2) Bands from your home town/state/country (depending on where you're from, you'll obviously have a different amount of music to work with--if you're from a big city, stick to the city, if you're from the middle of nowhere, then you probably could use your whole state)
Aw, flibbilty floo. Garsh Darn. You're gonna have to count me out of this first one. I live in Montgomery, AL where the music scene is absolutely dead. I mean, I feel it necessary to hand out mixed tapes to nearly everyone I befriend here just so they can understand me a little better. That wasn't the case down by Mobile or in Mississippi. For some reason this place seems like a desert when it comes to finding people who have decent taste of music. I would bet that strat-o actually knows more bands from Montgomery than I do.
Oh well, when the next CD we all agree on comes around, I'm certainly in, especially if it's the top 15 songs deal. There's a chance I would send a CD of that to everyone who participates here.

Hmm, what do I own by Texas bands ... Lyle Lovett, Stevie Ray, At the Drive-In, Fabulous T-Birds, a couple of Janis Joplin tracks ... wait a sec, how about Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs? Weren't they from Texas? Don Henley is ... hmm, I might be able to come up a decent mix. Yeah, count me in as well.
I like the top fifteen songs idea, too.

Well, I'd love for the first round of this to be nice and big with lots of people participating, so maybe the local music theme isn't ideal. We can save it for later.
All time favorite songs sound good then? That should be one that everyone can get in on, and should make for some cool mixes.

Oh man, I could FLOOD you guys with south Louisiana rap, but seriously, I don't know if I'd want to torture someone like that.
A Texas rap mix, on the other hand, would be excellent. I could have a LOT of fun with that, and show people what some rappers were like before they jumped ship and moved to New Orleans. Could also show-case pre-Skrew Texas stuff, which seemingly gets no love in this era of pure fucking garbage like Mike Jones and Paul Wall.
I could find the Zydeco stuff, as I know all the names, and I could even probably include some Bluerunners in the mix. When you get to the New Orleans area, though, well...you've got jazz, gangsta rap, and a handful of Phil Anselmo bands. Oh, and Acid Bath.
Sorry, just rambling and brainstorming...but, thinking about it, I might could put together a decent "local" mix.
I'd rather do the favorite songs thing for now, though. That'd be an easier starting point.

All right, I'm going to arbitrarily choose Friday as the deadline to get in on this, and sometime this weekend I'll go ahead and draw names for everyone.
Quick question: Do you guys want to just trade with whoever, or do you want the person you receive a mix from to not necessarily be the same person you're sending one to? Am I making this way too hard?

Do you have entirely too much time to think about this?.. Count me in. I'm settled into my new house with a new cd burner I installed myself (so proud of this accomplishment I feel the need to tell even strangers about it) and ready to burn. I have not been laid in a while either; boyfriends who decide they don't want to go to work three times in a week and get fired don't deserve sex.

If this is going to be a long-term deal, I say that all trades are at random.
Now...are we making the mixes before or after we know who we're making a mix for? Part of me says before, but part of me knows that could be disappointing.
I say make and post mixes BEFORE you get a name because, that way, it is YOUR mix. The person getting the mix isn't getting your favorite songs that you think they would like. Also, you won't have to worry about "aw, man, this poster is going to HATE this mix" and stress over it.
On the other hand...maybe it'd be better for people to get the mix of your favorite songs that you think they might like. It may end up more rewarding for all of us in the end. You also may avoid procrastination or drop-outs if each user can get worked up about sending a CD to a particular person, and not just someone in general. Things may also move faster if we have a name and address to begin with.
(Now that's making this too hard)
And, as we all know, a lot of mixes will end up getting sent to multiple users upon request.
But yeah, Rocky, I vote for no trading with the same person unless the lottery turns out that way.

Hey now. I limit myself to one at a time -- I do have three loafing stoner boys in my house but only one of them expects to get laid.
Rocky, I think I'm with ekul in that we should probably know who is getting mix. It would keep everyone's interest up I'm betting.
