No doubt. Mr Beast roars out the clear answer to that (pathetic) assessment.
I finally figured out why the album is so short: any more intensity on that level, and we wouldn't be able to handle it. I was reflecting on how some have complained it's "too short"; I call bullshit on that. Better 50 minutes of concentrated goodness than 70+ min of bloated overdone-ness.

And I think you're right on about the new Mono songs being made for live interp. I'm so excited about the prospect of seein' Mono w/Pelican . . . [Last time I saw Pelican, I bought their 12" split w/mono, and had 2 of the guys sign the cover for me . .. I've got a good mind to actually haul that puppy in with me for mono to sign . . . shit, if I'm doing that, I may as well bring in my One Step More And You Die vinyl for em, too. Maybe I'll just see if there's any mono vinyl I don't have for sale there. . . .]
But yah, I'm psyched to check out mogwai live in a couple weeks. Then it looks as if there's a decent chance I'll be seein *the ultimate post-rockers* TOOL in a small venue, as early as May 5th, just 3 short days after Mogwai ! And if I don't catch that show (Vegas/the Joint (same place I saw Korn a few weeks back), I'll be catchin' em in Denver on May 10th, most likely. Damn, but 2006 is jumpin out of its cage, snarlin'.

No kidding, 2006 is jumping out of the cage. I can hardly keep up with all of the releases I would like to get. Hey, have you heard the new Jesu? I've heard it's a pretty decent post rock record. I know it's one of the guys from Godflesh, who I love, but I heard the new record is really pretty and doesn't rely on metal that much.

You should check out the new Larsen record that just came out. Image Godspeed being kicked in the face by Swans. It's pretty good stuff.

Oh man, Swans is amazing. I really love the noisy early stuff and then the stuff with Jarboe is really exciting as well. Actually, a good post rock/sort of metal record is that Neurosis record that they did with Jarboe. It was actually much more stunning than I thought it would be. Also, M. Gira's new thing with the "The Angels of Light" is amazing as well. Not to mention his Young God records has been releasing brilliant albums by Devendra Banhart, The Akron/Family, and Mi and Lau. It's weird........his early stuff is as industrial noise as it gets and then he totally went Manson folk. Heavy and creepy but in a totally different way.

Melikes latterday Swans the best. White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity is amazing! Five stars for me. I grew a bit tired of Greed, Filth and Cop after a while. Intense, yeah, but give me the low baritone of Gira in a song like God Damn the Sun or Failure and it drowns out any screams he had uttered earlier in his career.

hmmm... nice tips . .. based on the above, I'd consider starting from the White Light album, and going backwards . . .
hey . . . sisyphus saw Mi and Lau the other day, downtown . . . I missed that one . . . she said they were awesome...

I saw Mi and Lau a little over a couple of weeks ago at Emo's here in Austin. I thought they were very engaging and quite interesting.

If you are into the weirdo folk thing, they are definitely worth checking out. Also, Young God's vinyl releases are also not to be missed. Great mastering, usually 180 gram, and the packaging is great. My Banhart records are quite a sight to behold as well as some of the Angels of Light releases.

I saw Mi and Lau a little over a couple of weeks ago at Emo's here in Austin. I thought they were very engaging and quite interesting. I just saw Mi and Lau a few months ago. I loved them!!!! As an audience, we all sat at their feet like little kids at story time. Josephine Foster opened for them, and she was pretty interesting as well...

I always think of Deerhoof as just weirdo rock as when I saw them live, they just about blew my socks off. I have to say that their new record is really intense and very good. I have seen them a few times now and every time just gets better and better.
The only thing that bugged me about the Mi and Lau show was the amount of talking that Austin crowds do when the music is a little mellow. It's horribly rude and we have been notorious for that kind of behavior for as long as I can remember. I actually consider going to other cities these days as Austin crowds can be somewhat embarrasing.

that's too bad. i hate it when pepes are disrespectin' the music cuz they can't get past the nifty vibrations of their cell phones to time out for a minute...
