No, nothing like "Treefingers". It's definitely up there for me on my list this year. I think it's a really good release.

Speaking of Japanese post-rock (well okay the Mono discussion is a couple days old but whatever) I think I've fallen in love with Toe. I always thought they were good, but in a more "objective" way - their music is really starting to blow me away now.
Would Natsumen be considered post rock?

We were blasting out Natsumen in the car on the way to Leamington today. They work better in the car than standard post-rock fare, especially on a hot day with the windows down. The vibe is somehow more summery, and there's less quiet, melancholy passages that you can't hear due to Eminem or R Kelly blasting out of the car next to you at the lights.
Rit - I have to disagree on The Lost Riots. Vocally it's not the strongest, but I rate it highly.
Toe?

Another band that I'm dying to see live. Toe. WTF is up with them playing at a tiny club like the Shimokitazawa ERA? Yeah, it's great for the people who scored tickets that they can see them at such an intimate setting, but for the rest of us, bleh. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvcFFPQijqk&mode=related&search=It looks like I'll get another chance to see them - though I'll have to wait until September. Kind of nervous that they're playing with Clammbon, who are wonderful but who are also hugely popular here, so I'm a little worried that tickets might sell out.

Maarts, I've not heard that Loop thing. I'll keep an eye out.
I have to say, Mono's You Are There has filled me with an excited buzz I haven't got from an instrumental album since I first heard Lift Yr Skinny Fists... all those years ago. I think Albini made some mistakes with Yanqui uxo but he's clearly learned his post-rock, or maybe Mono are just better musical technicians, because every sound on this album is in its right place and it's not so damn murky. But above all else, these compositions are at once powerful yet jaw-droppingly, achingly beautiful. "The Flames Beyond Cold Mountain", "Yearning" and "Moonlight" are up there with the likes of "Moya" and "East Hastings" - every bit as good, if not better.
One thing I've noticed is that "Moonlight" live is even better than the studio version, at least judging by the youtube performance available. Certainly the string-bending during the last minute lends a magical something extra that seems absent from the studio version. I can't wait to see this band live.
We also have our tickets booked for iLiKETRAiNS at Birmingham. Also going to see them at Leicester and possibly York on their forthcoming tour to promote their new single and album, due early Sept and October respectively. Magic.

Sounds great- have fun mate! iLiKETRAiNS certainly has been a nice discovery! Listened to this today, it certainly would befit the post-rock canon and look forward to have my copy signed tomorrow by Mr. Patton himself...

you've got to be f*&kin kidding me?......there is a rubric called (and seriously so?) 'postrock"
oy vey
so let me guess, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Holly,Cochran, etc are pre-pre rock
Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks, etc are pre-rock
Led Zepplin, Badfinger, BTO, ELO, REO (etc ad nausem!!) are rock
Pistols, Clash, Buzzcocks, etc are pre-post rock
and then Sigor Ros, etc are post-rock
;D ;D ;D

And yes, it is one of the dumbest genre classifications to come around in a long time.
You can thank those "rockist" assholes for this one.
