It would be totally fucking awesome if Broken Social Scene and Arcade Fire just kept rotating years and releasing albums like they've been. 2003?* You Forgot It In People. 2004? Funeral. 2005? Broken Social Scene. 2006? Hopefully that new Arcade Fire will come to be.
*Okay, so 2002 was the release date, but it took us until 2003 to soak it all it. A flawed theory, maybe, but hopefully it'll be made up for?

good theory. But do you prefer BSS over Arcade?

Yeah, I do. On the other hand, I could probably name you more songs off of Funeral than any given BSS disc. BSS is the better album band, whereas when I put in Funeral, I'm more likely to just skip to a track I really like.
Two different bands, but they're far from "apples and oranges", and both fill up a similar hole in the music scene. I love them dearly.

I know numerous people have made the connection in the sound between Frog Eyes and Wolf Parade, so my curiosity is piqued.

My Top 13 albums of 2005 listed and then talked about for a about a sentence.
13 Decemberists - Picaresque Not as Her Majesty... but it's still a good album 12 The Ponys - Celebration Castle I didn't like when I first heard it, but it grew on me a lot as the year progressed. 11 Constantines - Tournment of Hearts Insanely disappointing when measured next to their first two albums, but it's still better than most records released this year. 10 Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree still putting out good records, only now with upgraded recording equipment. 09 The National - Alligator they don't do anything new, but what they do, they do quite well. 08 Of Montreal - The Sunlandic Twins It's almost too sugary for me sometimes, but other times it's the most awesome thing ever. 07 Sleater-Kinney - The Woods the production is horrible, but thankfully the songs still come out great. 06 The Kills - No Wow I can't think of anything to say about them besides comparing them to the white stripes only grittier. 05 New Pornographers - Twin Cinema best pop album of year 04 Joggers - With a Cape and a Cane They do that talking heads imitation thing that everybody else is doing nowadays, only they do it in an interesting and good way. 03 Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs the guy's got a funny voice, but he writes really good songs to make up for it 02 Akron/Family - Akron/Family I guess they make folk music, but it's really strange folk music. I know it sounds corny, but they give out a really joyful vibe. 01 Deerhoof - The Runners Four crazy, crazy guitar pop music. i really can't describe why I love this album so much, it just gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it

Lunatic - good to see someone else enjoyed The Sunset Tree by the Mountain Goats!
I might have liked it and rated it higher than anyone else here, but it's a great album in my opinion, a truly memorable one! Good to see someone else enjoying it too!

I'm really starting to love Broken Social Scene too - in a completely different way to the Arcade fire, which is to expected, they are both uniquely different albums in alot of ways... They are definitely in my "sub top ten but highly rated albums of 2005 list... which evidently, I am posting now...
11. Takk - Sigur Ros Once again, a sublimely beautiful album, with a bit more of a rockier feel this time, still nevertheless a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
12. Alex Lloyd - Alex Lloyd Alot of people hate Alex Lloyd and decry him as a sellout, which I was in danger of doing, and yeah, his sound has commercialised over the year alot more... but this album is full of irresistible pop songs, good songcraft, and I still really enjoy his vocal style. Great album. Might have rated it higher if I knew it better when I was compiling my top ten.
13. Blinking Lights and other Revelations - Eels This album showed quite a return to form for the songwriting force that is Mr. E. Full of kooky little numbers and some really gorgeous melodies, and some really pleasant instrumental parts.
14. The Future Embrace - Billy Corgan Another one of my universally bashed favourites for the year... I just really, really enjoyed and didn't see why people needed to give Corgan such a hard time. It's pretty typical corgan fare - a bit like a less intense and more personal Machina mixed with alot of the philosophy and sound of Adore... it just worked for me!
15. Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene Really, really good album which gaining more and more attention from me with every listen... again, might have rated it better had I bought it earlier than the last week in december... :-)
16. Lior - Autumn Flow Some gorgeously penned and unashamedly romantic songs, produced really nicely too - one of my favourite songs of this year was "This Old Love", the albums opening track.
17.Transgression - Fear Factory I've always loved Fear factory albums - its something about the sound, the themes, the songwriting. This one is a bit rougher 'round the edges but no less listenable... really love their U2 cover, too... "I will Follow".
18. Idlewild - Warnings / Promises - likely to cop shit for this choice, because alot of people hated it and thought Idlewild had lost the plot, but I just think its an extension of things they were doing on The Remote Part. In much the same way that Death Cab approached Plans. And the songs themselves stand up and sound absolutely great in my opnion.
19. Coldplay - X & Y Probably not as strong as some of their previous stuff, but still some really infectious pop songs that get stuck in your head! The Coldplay backlash might be ready to occur but I still found this thoroughly enjoyable. They don't have to be the next Beatles, they can just be enjoyed!
20. The Chemical Brothers - Push the Button - They play a grossly outdated form of electronic music - but goddamn this album was still fun.

Akron/Family's "Running, Returning" is flawless. (does it not sound like a bunch of Radiohead songs mashed together at once though?)
