Oooooooo.... tricky.... well, my ten best are looking like these at present...
1. Main Street - Epicure 2. The Sunset Tree - The Mountain Goats 3. Fractions - Decoder Ring 4. Mesmerize - System of Down (hopefully part two of these recording sessions will make this an unbeatable combo of albums this year!) 5. Oceans Apart - The Go Betweens 6. Some Cities - Doves 7. Suspended Animation - Fantomas 8. Plans - Death Cab for Cutie 9. Worlds Apart - And You Will Knows By The Trail of Dead 10. Lior - Autumn Flow
That's how it's looking thus far this year, although there's a couple of months worth of time for that to change!

Shit! I forgot to mention Takk! Of course! Blah! I forget so easily!
I'm really looking forward to hearing Hypnotize! Not sure if I am going to buy it out of my own money now or wait until my sister is able to buy it for me for Christmas.... into deep savings mode now, but still might have enough to afford it this sunday when JB put it out on the shelf!

Two more new releases to add to my list, hot off the coals:
System of a Down - Hynnotize (how good would a single, 70 minute album have been though?) Fields of the Nephilim - Mourning Sun - after an unpromising start this turns into classic Nephilim.

There's nothing to worry about. Exceptional album. The full version of "Soldier Side" is every bit as good as you could possibly imagine from the intro version.

Thats a good thing!!! I do think that maybe they could have consolidated Mesmerize and Hypnotize into one long album... but nevertheless it sound slike both albums will stand up fine in the long run, with very little filler on either.... I certainly enjoyed Mesmerize alot and i still do!!! It still stands as one of my favourites of the year...
As for which one goes in my list of top albums for the year... I am not sure! Do I choose the better of the two, or do I just regard them as basically the same album and say number whatever on my list was Mesmerize / Hypnotize by System of a Down... the mind boggles!

My own feeling is that they should be regarded as separate albums. After all, they total about 79 minutes, so we could have had one album here, no problem, but SOAD chose to try and make twice as much cash. So instead of having the album of the year, they've got 2 contenders falling just short with a tiny bit of filler in there. It's Kid A syndrome, but this time I'm buying one and burning one.

I'm not really qualified to compile a list because I listened to so little new music this year. I'm sure it would have included these, though, if I had... ~~~Sigur Ros Takk ~~~Autechre Untilted~~~Sun Kil Moon Tiny Cities~~~Bruce Springsteen Devils & DustWhich are pretty much the only albums I bought this year... I haven't heard the entire album, only about 3 songs on XM, but if the rest of the album is as steller as the tracks I heard, M83's Before the Dawn Heals Us would have been high on my list (had I made one, that is ).

This is going to be a tough fucking year for me, man. I don't know why, but I have been rocked this year, but few releases have really moved me, though. It may be January before I get that list out. I actually feel a bit similar to Skvor in this regard... no doubts about it, there has been some good stuff, but it's been really hard to feel blown away by anything at all really... kinda sad, but alot of my buying and listening has centred on stuff from previous years and filling out back catalogue... Alot of the bigger releases of this year just haven't turned my dial... Wasn't big on the stuff everyone's raving about... And is it just me or is the whole "retro" rock thing just sounding really, really tired now?! Perhaps its five minutes is coming to it's end... who knows! Do we hear anything truly new this year? I mean really, really new, ground breaking... Or did that all end a few years ago?! I've enjoyed a HUGE amount of stuff, but I am thinking 2005 won't be the huge year of musical breakthroughs that the previous three years have been. Good, but not mind blowing or a new phase in my listening journey, methinks. But alot of really enjoyable releases along the way, I can't be all that negative, because I've had alot of fun!
