The Time Is Now
Same Rules as last year
Don't worry about it not being continous, feel free to comment,I'm going to take my time posting these
Patten's Top 55 Albums of 2005#55-#51#55Neil Diamond- 12 SongsOne of the last albums, I have listened to this year, possably would be higher had I had more time with it.
Anyway I have never been a Neil Diamond fan,
but I'm a huge fan of the Johny Cash recordings with Rubin
so I allowed this monotone folk singer without the dash and flash of Vegas to have a impact on me
"What an Amazing Voice" you can't just do an a stripped down record
if you don't have a belief in what you singing he believes it I believe him
and what a bonus to hear him and Brian Wilson 2 of the greatest pop song writters of all time.
(Delirious Love)
It's simple and honest just the way folk singing was ment to be.
Standout-
"Hell Yeah" When it's all said and done this is how you should feel at the end of your exsistence on this planet
#54Super Furry Animals- Love KraftSFA should be one of the bands we talk about as a trend setter,
a consistant challenge to their listeners,it's never the same album twice
The Beatles/Pink Floyd/Beach Boys/Kraftwerk all reside in the same SFA universe.
This time out they've become a an electronic infused jam band or just more use of a psychedelic sound.
With more room to allow for experminatation
But a rare thing happens it's a good album rather than a great album
but when your already the world's most experimental pop group this was bound to happen at least in this galaxy.
("Laser Beam") the first single does what singles should do annouce a new direction for the band and if you don't like that well this SFA album isn't for you,but there's one for each of you to seek out.
Standout-
"Walk You Home" SFA at their most beautiful walking that line between pop and classical
#53Living Things- Ahead of The LionsIt took 2 yrs and being fired from Velvet Revolver's tour.
But It's finally here, the MAJOR LABEL debut from a band who put out a so-called "anti-american" ep during the fall of 2001.
What Nonsense listen to this album and
you will a hear a politically motivated Stooge-esque rants about bomb in the desert, trying to survive, and in a grand olde tradition as old as the world
KNOW THY ENEMY
Lilian Berlin takes the viewpoint of a solider several instances and delivers a growl to the establishment as Johnny Rotten once did
If you wanted AC/DC to make a PUNK album with politics
Well Here You Go!
Standout-
March To Daylight-This Year's Blitzkrieg Bop Blitz being the Middle East
#52Feist-Let It DieBroken Social Scene is taking over my music collection this year various members and solo outings have filled my cd player.
This being a first of many.
Leslie Feist style is just bossa nova and light jazz, somewhat subduded indie rock shapes
perfect for those evenings at home cooking and reading by candlelight.
Her voice reminds me of closing your eyes when the wind is blowing and finding some peace within
Recorded in Paris,It's a rewarding trip through the speakers
Standout-
"Lesuire Suit" A perfect candles in the bedroom song for your mix
#51Kings of Leon- Aha Shake HeartbreakClean Shaven,Nice Suit Jackets what the hell does that have to do with the music.?(12 page fashion layout in Rolling Stone...2 paragraphs on the album
I'm a little disturbed by the fact most record reviews focused on their image then the music
Yes much of the same thing with the Strokes comparison
album 2 didn't really change that much from #1
But as I said about Room on Fire that doesn't mean it's not a good album
It's just another step to KOL making that classic record you know they have in them
Standout-
King of The Rodeo I couldn't understand the verse for at least a month till I read the lyrics great rock song though,Burns live
