before I post it, I should put a little disclaimer:
At my age (24), my generation was never going to be authentic goth & my choices are heavily influenced by the industrial movement, because all the goth clubs I'd go to when I was 16 were quite hardcore. So I don't pretend to have much authority on this subculture, though I immensely enjoyed immersing myself in it. But I still own knee-high steel toe black whore boots & a black PVC mini, I still have my stylised goth panther tattoo & when Marilyn Manson toured Australia for the first time in the mid-90s my friends & snuck into his afterparty at a noted goth nightspot, only to be thrown out for one of our kind heckling Sir God of Fuck.
As the great Peaches said: Manson fans think they're black sheep when they're really just sheep in black hehe

My Top 20 Goth Albums [chosen for: 1. greatness and/or innovativeness 2. contribution to gothness culture 3. making my pained angst-dolescence a little more 'cheery', in the way only goth musick can]
Bloody Kisses - Type O Implode - Front Line Assembly Mask - Bauhaus Love Like Blood - Killing Joke Violator - Depeche Mode (I know its not goth, you can get over that...its dark & sexy) Into the Labyrinth - Dead Can Dance Floodland - Sisters of Mercy Dawnrazor - Nefilim Kaleidoscope - S & the Banshees Antichrist Superstar - MM Bites OR Too Dark Park - Skinny Puppy Angst - KMFDM the Downward Spiral OR PHM - NIN Psalm 69 - Ministry Pornography - the Cure Hee-Haw - the Birthday Party First & Last & Always - Sisters of Mercy Love - the Cult Kings of the Wild Frontier - Adam & the Ants (shut it...this is Trent Reznor's father & the man who launched a thousand copycats in military/makeup ensembles - respect 2 Adam Ant)
01. Closer + Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division (they're good enough to have 2 inclusions @ #1 & you know it bitch)

hmmm, I'll probably change that list all around in the next 6 months, but its all full of greatness. I know bands like Skinny Puppy & Ministry are just about as goth as White Zombie or Cradle of Filth are (ie not very), but that kind of industro-S&M stuff was the defining scene for 'goths' of my time.
Honorable mentions = Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, Orgy, Sex Gang Children

and just to pimp out the one website I'd probably pose nude for: www.suicidegirls.comThey're total sellouts, with their calendars & touring burlesque show & DVD, but I sstill love girls who have more piercings than I do. Word to the pain, sistas.

Sheesh, Thorn. Korn?!? Ugh, man, those guys could play Mr. Bungle covers perfectly and I'd still never take them seriously. Also, putting Korn in the same pantheon as Skinny Puppy or The Cure makes me queasy!
Layla, Skinny Puppy and Ministry after consulting my much older friends and family, were the pinnacle of goth in the mid 80s. Both Ogre and Al Jourgenson were the pinups for the goth gays and goth girls alike aside from Morrissey, Robert Smith, David Bowie, and Peter Murphy.
I do really like your top goth list. It's quite good. I am also very familiar with Suicide Girls as I am a dirty later 20s year old man who loves corets and black leather.

"Sheesh, Thorn. Korn?!? Ugh, man, those guys could play Mr. Bungle covers perfectly and I'd still never take them seriously." - Then, pray tell, how am I supposed to take you seriously? Playing Bungle covers is a serious proposition, son.

" Also, putting Korn in the same pantheon as Skinny Puppy or The Cure makes me queasy! " - Try this thing called "opening your mind", you might like it . . . Seriously: Not only is Robert Smith a fan, he went so far as to get Ross Robinson to produce their last album. Yes that is relevant. Speaking of Skinny Puppy. . . . they should open for Korn! That would be near to absolute perfection. I have typed this with a straight face.

I simply happen to know all too well that you can add Jonathan Davis to that list including Morrissey, Robert Smith, David Bowie, Peter Murphy, Al Jourgensen, Oghr, etcetera. mark my words

Ugh, dude. Ugh! That's all I have to say to that. And if Skinny Puppy opened for Korn, I'd shoot them myself. Eh, just cause Robert Smith likes them doesn't mean much to me. Ross Robinson is also responsible for doing a terrible recording job of At the Drive In's last record. Ugh. Gross! Gross!

Trust me, I have tried to like Korn and Jonathan Davis cannot sing. The only thing going for him is that Geiger Mic Stand and his Serial Killer museum other than that.......ewwww.

Funny how a guy who "cannot sing" is actually my favorite vocalist.

LOL, I was just thinking to myself today, "Maybe Skvor isn't really going to express an opinion on thorn's Korn fetish. Hmm."
Girl I work with played the new one in its entirety for me, and I don't have any problems with it.
