Next thing you know, you'll all be saying that "Terrecota pie" or whatever song is genius. The days of "Deer Dance", "War?" and "Science" are long gone, sadly. Take a chill pill - - they'll be back. SOAD will deliver another epic that will build on those days, believe me. I agree TOXICITY is their outstanding masterpiece; why bash on a great band just 'cuz you personally didn't get down w/their latest -? Same thing for the STripe's "Get behind Me Satan". . .I didn't like what I heard @the listening station (hence never did get the album), but even I am not dense enough to conclude "it sux"; I'm still waiting to see that shit on vinyl, and when I do - - I'll get it. Somehow I feel that eventually, my ears will hear the light (if only I were to give them a chance).

It's a decent album, not great... the White Stripes lastest one, that is.

Besides . . . if you can't see the genius in nonsensicality interspersed w/heavy-handed social commentary (replete w/hard-hitting riffage), then I suppose you really did miss the point of Mezmerize/Hypnotize. I would say it did not quite live up to TOXICITY's lofty heights nor harrowing depths; but I would also insist that it needn't have to. In fact, the distinct "lightening up" of this double-release is, in my view at least, the very thing it needed to lend it the necessary distance from TOXICITY's devastation. I found it's lighter handling of these various themes to be just the ticket, this time around. I have total faith these guys still have another opus to deliver us. Guess we'll just have to wait & see, huh

It's a decent album, not great... the White Stripes lastest one, that is. I feel deep inside that you must be right. Of course, I made a promise to myself that I would only get the White Stripe's output on vinyl (as I feel it is the ideal medium for their particular brand of music); so I won't be hearing "Get Behind Me Satan" on shiny digital CD no more. (That once @the listening station was enuff) I am retaining my stock in faith that "Get Behind Me Satan" will deliver the goods . . . once it's playing properly from the hissing static of my diamond needle, that is. I'm actually still psyched about it . . .

It ought to be released on vinyl, by now . . . I'll have to look into that. I could use me some new Stripes, about now

I think it's a good record and I have played it many times. It does fall short of being great though and I don't know if it's because it came after the phenomenal "Elephant" or what, but if anything, I think this will be a prime example of a very transitional record. I think the next one is going to be fantastic.

i think it was rushed.. that was it's biggest weak knee.

It was rushed rather intentionally though. They thought Elephant was labored over too much, so they spit this one out a lot faster so it would sound a little more spontaneous. I really really like it. At first I was also feeling as though it was probably some sort of transitional record, but the more I listen to it the more it really does stand on its own. If it's a transitional record, and they're going to do stuff in this vein for a while, that's cool, but I really feel as though the next album is probably going to again be something completely different.

Don't like GBMS, and I still think that Toxicity is the low point of SoaD (although it's still great). I'm so...disconnected with you people.

GBMS was good, but something about it is lacking. I don't feel compelled to listen to it now. my fave Stripes remains De Stijl. I loved that album.

Personally, I can't stand System of a Down. Never in my life have I disagreed with liking a band that sucked that much since Rage Against The Machine. They can't sing, they can't write, and they like to steal riffs from Mike Patton and can't seem to get over their Patton worship. I like that they write political lyrics and seem to be one of the few mainstream bands that are doing anti-Bush songs that aren't cheesy, but I just think they are CHEESY. I don't get it.

I remember quite vividly a post from the Toxicity era where you were bashing snobs and saying that you, and I quote, "love" System of a Down.
Just sayin'...

I'll admit it, I was suckered! I fell for it because I wanted to like them so much, but after the last two records, I'm going to have to claim temporary insanity on that one. Over the last couple of months though, my tastes have been changing big time. Alright so I will strike the statement that "I don't get it". I get it........maybe that's the problem.
