I feel like the award has never been relevant and is nothing more than goon corporate suits, patting themselves on the back for recognizing redundant crap.

I liked Vedder's speach back in 1994 when he said (after PJ won a Grammy) this means absolutely nothing. Ever since, PJ has been snubbed from every award show, and hasn't been nominated since.

Vedder could practically give a symposium on how to resign from being the "voice of your generation," or even from being a rock star generally. How many people out there wouldn't even recognize him today?
In some ways, Pearl Jam's disappearence from the media is even more impressive than Dylan's deconstruction of his own image in the seventies, as PJ not only didn't produce a bad album during this period, they actually made their best work after they stopped doing award shows, videos, etc., etc. I can't think of another band/artist who better deflected the media spotlight without losing either their artistic path or their desired stage. Usually, if you want to disappear, you've got to stop releasing albums, or at least release really shitty ones. Not PJ.

The shitty thing about the Grammys, as always, is how they always manage to pick completely meaningless bands or acts based solely on their longevity. Paul McCartney or U2 for best album? Gimme a break.

About the new album and tour? Yeah. It's always good to see one of America's best live bands headed back on the road. And I'm hoping the new record is better than Riot Act was ... RA wasn't a bad album, but it never resonated with me the way Binaural did.

Overall, though it was a mediocre album IMO. Binaural gets better and better w/ more listens and time. The way it was produced was really cool, it's very dense and layered w/ lots of subtle things going on during every song. While it's not my favorite PJ album, I think it's definitely their most underrated album, and maybe their most interesting (well Binaural and No Code would tie for most interesting).

Riot Act was to Pearl Jam what Around the Sun was to REM... although not quite that bad.

Not all rap is shit, some of it is rather good actually. I'm not a huge fan of rap by any means, but some worthy acts from the hip-hop world IMO include:
A Tribe Called Quest Run -DMC Beastie Boys Public Enemy Eric B & Rakim Big Daddy Kane the Wu Tang Clan the Roots Common Outkast

carried over from the Floyd threadI am curious what THIS is going to sound like: On An Island out on March 7, US, co-produced w/Phil Manzanara First real solo album in over 20 years....guess he thought, 'fuckme, Rog did a g'dam opera...I mus' put SOMEthing out!' Only thing I've heard is that he got help by Graham Nash and David Crosby on it. .....hmmmmm: Crosby, Gilmour, & Nash => the latest supergroup of the 21st Century? WAIT! how 'bout: David + David + Graham.....as a hidden track you get a 22 minute space jam of "Welcome To The Boomtown" !!
