Sorry, Thorn, man I just think APC is pure crap. The first record was okay for metal kids that you can tell have a secret love for the Cocteau Twins but those last two record were just plain awful. I may love Maynard, but whoooo, those records stink.
I am looking forward to RHCP as I am a huge Frusciante fan. I could care less about Radiohead though. I am curious about the Rancantours and I will dig the new Metallica if they learn how to play metal again and only if they play metal. I'm really excited about Loose Fur, Wilco, and The Arcade Fire and the Sonic Youth since this will be the last record that Sonic Youth will be doing with Geffen. They have fulfilled their contractual obligations with Geffen and said they are leaving after this record is done. Apparently they are recording the record in the same studio that they did "Sister" and will sound alot like melodic old classic Sonic Youth.
The only think I heard is that Issac Brock will be doing a new Ugly Cassanova and could be in the processof breaking up Modest Mouse for good.
I really don't want the Pixies to do a new record. I fear that it will suck and they will ruin their amazing legacy.

Skvor, you ever venture into Frusciante's solo work?

I have every single solo record the man has ever released. I think the man is a true genius and I am convinced that the only reason he still plays in the RHCP, is due to his personal feelings for Flea. I think he would be just fine without them.

"Personal feelings"?

Well, Fruciante is bi, BUT I think they have a really close friendship and I wonder if he didnt' come back into the band as some sort of personal favor to Flea. I'm glad that he's clean of drugs and the last RHCP record was pretty good.

I'm glad that he's clean of drugs and the last RHCP record was pretty good. He's bi? I'd never heard that. He might be alright as far as putting out some good music away from RHCP, but there are a few practical reasons for sticking around. First of all, financially. No way Frusciante's albums would ever be big sellers. Sticking with the RHCP makes him enough money that he can still do whatever he wants with his solo stuff and not have to worry about getting by. Secondly, his drug problems were pretty intense, and I wonder if the structure of being in a band helps him out with staying clean. I think I've even heard him say as much--having responsibilities to other people and such. And thirdly, well, I think he probably really likes the music he does with them, so why should he not stick around?

Yeah, those are all sound reasons and I really think that the structure of touring gives him something to do, for sure. I just like his solo work much better than his output with them, with the exception of Blood Sugar Sex Magick. Man, that is one fantastic record and the guy was only 20 when he made it. JEEZ!!!

I'm really looking foward to the new Belle and Sebastian. Only I've already heard so I'm not so sure if I'm actually looking forward to it anymore. Best thing they've released since the Johnathan David ep. Also the Islands debut, Return to the Sea, which I’m sure has leaked somewhere but which I haven’t heard; I've heard it and I wasn't very impressed. But then I never like the Unicorns much except for "I was born a unicorn," so maybe you'll like it more. I can hook you up with it if you want.

Adam, Weeping - I forgot all about the upcoming radiohead album... talk about overlooking one of my most hotly anticipated albums of this year! Bah! Where was my brain on that first post I made!
I must have gotten all obsessed with that new album by the Church and forgotten everything else... :-)

I agree Tool, Arcade Fire and Radiohead are amongst the most exciting prospects.
Love the new Strokes already.
Not bothered about Pearl Jam after Riot Act showed they're washed up now.
APC's covers album was tedious but I prefer Thirteenth Step to Mer de Noms. They're just a light snack though, compared to the fine banquet that is Tool.
Anything new by Brock would be welcome, though MM excite more than Ugly Casanova, even with Pall Jenkins on board for the latter. Which reminds me... where have BHP gone?

I also predict that Britain (and the NME) will wank themselves silly over the forthcoming Arctic Monkeys record Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.
It will be very good and very promising, but obviously not as good as the hype.
Nor will it be anywhere near as bad as all the silly people annoyed by the hype will then tediously claim.
Hard-Fi will release another gloriously catchy single that proves they grew up listening exclusively to the Clash and the Jam.

I'll predict The Rolling Stones will play at the half time break of the Superbowl.

Albums I look forward to- Massive Attack, Tool, The Breeders, Radiohead, Art Of Fighting.
I don't look forward to- Red Hot Chili Peppers who, with every new release just get blander and blander until they have faded themselves away or get as blunt as an Islamic cleric's razorblade.
I actually share your concern regarding the Pixies- as much as I'd like to see them play live here down under, it's hard to imagine them recording anything trumping what they have recorded before, using Frank Black's latest albums as proof.

I can understand the Pixies concern, but I definately do not understand how anyone can think the recent RHCP releases to be bland. They're certainly much different than their earlier albums, but they're so rich in melody, harmony, rhythm and just about everything else. By the Way, remarkably, is their most pop-oriented, but also their most complex release. The last couple albums have really been benchmarks in pop music in the last 10 years. I really feel that way. Certainly they don't have the punch of their earlier albums, but in many ways are just as, if not more rewarding.

I can see maarts not digging them, as he was was a fan WAY back in the day and saw them live and stuff. Me, I love the new RHCP, and would much rather have them mellow out than break up or play music that they're way too old to be doing.
"The only think I heard is that Issac Brock will be doing a new Ugly Cassanova and could be in the processof breaking up Modest Mouse for good."
Oh man, this is heat-breaking. I'd hate to see that success finally crushed MM, but shit, I do NOT want them to go out on that last album. It wasn't bad, but it was their weakest by a long shot. I want another classic before they go, greedy as they might be. And it always hurts to see one of your favorite bands bite the dust.
Not looking forward to the new Pixies, but it would be awesome to see them live again. Saw them twice on the last tour, and DAMN it was amazing. Especially at VooDoo, where there was nearly no crowd and they got onstage after Sonic Youth. Great stuff. One of the best shows I ever seen.
