At this point, Radiohead, Neko Case, and new Sonic Youth.
But the new Belle & Sebastian & Strokes albums are good, though unlikely to make any of my end year lists.

And the Racantours...I really don't know. My biggest problem with this is that it sounds like Jack White and Brendan Benson will be sharing songwriting/lead guitar/vocal duties and that is just ridiculous. The differential in talent between those guys in all 3 of those areas is massive, and therefore anything that Brendan Benson contributes is going to be crap compared to the Jack White stuff. But on the other hand, if it was all Jack White, then it would be pointless for him to do the project at all...I don't know, I'll probably check it out but I'm not optimisitic. Bah! There shall be no doubting in Mr. White. Certainly it can't be as good as the Stripes without Meghan, but let's give this a chance. Jack better be full time lead guitarist, though.

Not sure if anyone other than Weeping will care about this, but if it's just me and him, that's okay with me. You're all missing out. Here's the tracklisting for the upcoming Loose Fur album, out March 21st, entitled, Born Again in the U.S.A..
1) "Hey Chicken" 2) "The Ruling Class" 3) "Answers to Your Questions" 4) "Apostolic" 5) "Stupid As the Sun" 6) "Pretty Sparks" 7) "An Ecumenical Matter" 8) "Thou Shalt Wilt" 9) "Wreckroom" 10) "Wanted"
Apparently the new one that Tweedy played when I saw him solo was "The Ruling Class" (I didn't know the title until I read the article that that tracklisting came out of). Nice, catchy tune, with some pretty edgy lyrics. I think this album could actually sufficiently piss off enough people to get some real attention.

Oh I am definitely really excited about this record. I loved the first one and thank got it's coming out on Drag City so that I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for the vinyl.

I hope the Loose Fur album is a lot like the last because dang does that thing grow on a person. Wonderful musicianship and different enough from Wilco, etc. to make it a worthwhile side project. Now that that record is done let's hope Tweedy has enough material left to get working on that new Wilco record.

Well, in the Tweedy solo setting, "The Ruling Class" sounds nothing like anything on the first Loose Fur record, but it certainly could end up in that territory after it goes through the O'Rourke/Kotche ringer.
I did download that show--I could send you that song if you want.

I heard that this new Loose Fur record is basically old style prog in a Yes/King Crimson sort of way with some Tweedyisms. At least that's how they've described it in a couple of interviews.

Yeah, I read some interviews where he said the same thing, but I wasn't sure how much of that was just yanking our collective chains. Tweedy has also said that the next Wilco album will be a dance album, and I don't believe that for a second.

As proficient technically of a guitar player that O'Rourke is, I don't doubt that it would be full on prog. That guy is a phenomenal guitar player and really great all around musician. Come on, man, I could totally see Wilco going all Postal Service. A Wilco dance record would be awesome.

I posted my list on the first page, and it still stands, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that Slayer's upcoming opus will own everyone's ass.

I guess it's possible, just doesn't seem really likely to me, as Tweedy and O'Rourke pretty much split the songwriting duties, and I just can't picture Tweedy coming up a bunch of prog songs. I think it's much more likely that they'll be typical O'Rourke and Tweedy songs, but maybe run through a bit of a prog filter. Perhaps sounding like Wilco, but with harmonized guitars.

Yeah, the name is pretty bad. Almost sounds like a live album. But it is indeed great news. 24 new Peppers tracks!!!
