"freedom run" = nice, fredrum . . . "blues for the red sun" was always my favorite Kyuss. . . I never did get into QOTSA on account of how superior fuckin Kyuss was.
I keep searchin (in vain) for a copy of that Dopethrone album . . . will probably just have to break down and special order it online.

In case some of y'all are unfamiliar, or even don't like Hendrix, here are a few songs I think make for good "stoner rock":
Freedom Manic Depression Stone Free Up From the Skies Wait Until Tomorrow Beginnings Hey Baby Machine Gun (from Band of Gypsies) Pass It On (from Live at Berkeley) Voodoo Child (from Live at Berkeley) Little Wing (from South Saturn Delta) Here He Comes Voodoo Chile (from Blues) Born Under A Bad Sign
There are plenty more, but if you were to make a mix cd out of that, you'd hear some great stoner rock.

If you dig on Sleep, you have to check out Om, which is Sleep without Matt Pike. That is some excellant stoner rock right there. Also, I totally dig the new Jesu as well.
You should special order that Thorn, that record is essential!

Electric Wizard is actually opening some shows for Mogwai on their new tour this year. Talk about a great show line up.

ah! went on a stoner kick a few years back with the great aforementioned Kyuss "Blues For Red Sun" being one of the first pick-ups. Others that followed:
ORANGE GOBLIN "Frequencies From Planet Ten" ORANGE GOBLIN "Time Traveling Blues" both that I recently mentioned being killer IMO over any of their later output which swung away some from the 'smokier' stoner sound that I so dug on these two releases
SHEAVY "Electric Sleep" total Ozzy soundalike singer and riffs attempting to match
SPIRIT CARAVAN "The Last Embrace" 'deze dudes can get their fuzz on -- this double-CD gets ya what ya need
TROUBLE "Psalm 9" 1984 and Metal Blade gave us Chicago's Trouble debut. Sabbath blended with some early Priest and VERY satisfying. Cover of Cream's 'Tales of Brave Ulysses' caps a kickass album! Can also recommend 1991's "Manic Frustration" if you can find it.
ATOMIC BITCHWAX former Monster Magnet guitarist Ed Mundell was originally the backbone of this act and their 1999 debut remains the best pick IMO.
MONSTER MAGNET fuuuccckkkk, take your pick of any of the earlier shit, esp. "Spine Of God" & "Dopes To Infinity"
SOLACE "13" release that also gets put into the 'Sabbath-wannabeclone' bin with Sheavy, tho' a bit more rougher about the edges than that band
old Pentagram Fu Manchu and NICE fuckin' call on the HENDRIX! shit, toss on side 3 of "Electric LadyLand" with 'Rainy Day'/'1983'/'Moon, Turn The Tides'....yeah

Miles Davis...Bitches Brew
Always did the trick for me...
...and Mike Oldfield's Crises was the first album I ever listened to while high. Whew, that one's a doozy!

Its the ONLY answer to the question of "heaviest record ever". End of story.

This is the wrong forum (kinda) but I would be cool to hear some "stoner rock" mix cds...I'd be curious to see what people come up with....Stoner rock has a stero-type of being music like Phish and the Grateful Dead, but there is so, so much more.
Besides the Jimi I already listed, I got a few live CCR jam songs, some live Dead ("shakedown street" is awesome live), some wacky Kinks songs, some Beastie Boys instumentals, and more; all of which make for some good Stoner rock. Even a few hip hop songs would make for good stoner rock/rap; I'm thinking specificly of A Tribe Called Quest.

Jam rock and "stoner rock"/classic doom metal are pretty different animals, just as an FYI.
The best example of "stoner rock" in hip hop is HTown screwed and chopped shit. By far.

There may indeed be a differentiation between "jam rock" and "stoner rock" but it must be pointed out that "jam rock" is much more tolerable (re: enjoyable) when experienced under the influence of controlled substances, ESPECIALLY for non-musicians.

1st album I ever listened to while high: Piper At The Gates Of Dawn [this was in 1985...]
I can still sense those furry little tribble things peepin outta the speakers...
Monster Magnet! hell yes . . . . I once watched while Dave Wyndorf set fire to his guitar . . . and then fire to the low ceiling of the club, while the firemen wailed in from the city & they shut the place down. . . that fire chief was yelling at Wyndorf . . . it was rock'n'roll chaos . . . and then, 45 minutes later, after 75% of the audience had abandoned the joint . . . somehow MM talked themselves back onstage, where they finished off their raucous set to the devoted few die hards up front . . . that's what I call rock'n'roll . . .
