I still haven't seen Veronica G., but what I've heard matches what Weeping just said. That's the way the woman was! I can understand what RocDoc's saying about not being comfortable with the choices she made, but that goes to enjoyment of the film, not quality. Just my two cents.

Good call on "Chicago" Ken. So many find it so commercial, they won't give it it's due. But, I may have to hunt you down and bitch slap you for the Pitt comment. I mean, the man is sex on legs. Bowlegs at that. DELISH!

I loved Chicago. I'm really apprehensive about musicals, and almost always wind up not really liking them. But they pulled off quite the neat trick with that one. Managed to use the songs to actually advance the story/plot, and never got too cheesy (IMO). Deserved every award it got, and then some!
We've been down the Brad Pitt road before, but he just doesn't do it for me. I don't see where he's any better looking than any number of other actors, and he's just not that good an actor! I've been singularly unimpressed with him in the vast majority of his films.

Have you seen Kalifornia? Twelve Monkeys? Snatch? Come on now, give the man a break. Besides, like I said.......DELISH! And as far as musicals go, I am quite leery myself. I love Nicole and Ewan, but could not watch Moulin Bore in its entirety. And literally slept through Evita.

Haven't seen Kalifornia (and really have no desire to) ... have seen 12 Monkees (he was no better than serviceable in an extremely over-rated (IMO) performance and film)1 ... saw Snatch, which is probably my favorite performance of his, but it's hardly the stuff of a great career. Also saw bunches of his other films (incl. Fight Club, which Edward Norton stole right out from under him), and have never been impressed.
1 Note: I really have no desire in reviving the discussion of my long-standing beef with 12 Monkees. I know that most of the posters here love this film, and I just thought it was merely good. It just didn't do anything for me. I wasn't surprised by the ending, the performances just weren't that great, the whole thing just failed to connect with me. So let's just leave it at "in my humble opinion" and let it go at that, 'kay?

Okay Kay, bit you really need to see Kalifornia, far and above 12 Monkeys. Just a great road movie. Albeit, a psycho one. I have never had anybody say they didn't enjoy it.

I haven't seen too many Pitt movies, so I can't really judge him as an actor. And while I was never obsessed with him the way some girls were/are, he is a good-looking guy. Amp, I know you hate historical epics, but maybe you should check out Troy when it comes out on DVD, just so you can watch Brad Pitt in a skirt for 2 1/2 hours. ~PunkChick

I am glad someone pays attention. Yes, the epics do bore me. Glad you liked it though Punky!

rnr if you’re into those gritty poverty stricken Irish films may I recommend In the Name of the Father.. True tale, sad & corrupt. Sits high on the popcorn scale at 9 +.
Agreeing with both Mary & Ken. Huh you say…… I think Pitt was much better in his early films. Who knows ….. Perhaps more hungry before his own press got to him?

saw the day after tomorrow. special effects are amazing, dialgue atrocious (as only to be expected). and as usual, they stick some stupid fucking subplot in it, which has nothing to do with anything...and i can;t whinge because i'll be spoiling a predictable film.
there gets a point when there's so much suspense you don't care anymore, imo.
special effects are great. there were some scenes that were just that surreal, its worth seeing, if only for that. what happens to los angeles is breathtaking, and same with new york.
of course some stupid, 'why didn't they just....oh, what fucking idiots' moments. well, actually, plenty of them. dumb movie, but awesome special effects.
very american focussed. as to be expected. there's a shot or two of scotland. one of tokyo, one of india. i think africa just fell off the map somewhere in between.
i'd give it about a two outta five. and say go and see it, just for the point of it.

Day After Tomorrow? Is that a new one or one of those 'oldie-classics'?
~
In The Name Of The Father is an excellent flick...Daniel Day-Lewis, innit?

Yup it’s Daniel Day doc & Day After is new. One of those disaster movies. I’ll watch it, but falls into the “rental category” for me. Okay call me caught up in a good ad & or the guys track record, either way I’m getting the severe jones to see M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village. I’ll be dammed if it doesn’t look like it has huge potential. Trailer link www.themoviebox.net/movies/2004/STUVWXYZ/ Village,The/trailer-page.html

wouldn't have even been in rental catergory for me, except for the fact that i got free tickets off a journo friend who didn't want to go.
finally saw lost in translation, and i'm still absolutely stumped over what my final verdict is. it didn't have what the virgin suicides had for me. during the virgin suicides, i wasn't consciously thinking fo what i thought of it..until the end when i realised i was watching a wonderful film. at the end, i knew i had watched a fucking fantastic film. but at the end of lost in translation, i didn't have that feeling.
it had the wonderful and beautiful artisitc direction that i would expect from sofia, but it didn't have the 'wow' factor from me. it may turn out to be one of those films that you need to watch again to get it completely into your system...but i found myself walking away to get a drink without pausing it...which i never do. bill murray was wonderful and adorable. i liked scarlett. i just can't put my finger on what was amiss for me.
i'm still a huge fan of sofia's. i think i'll have to watch it again.

and weeps, have you told doobific about these boards? dont know if you still keep in contact with him, or if he would come...its been ages since he's posted on rs. but i saw him online a few days ago, and wondered if i should yell out. perhaps get a culture cafe back up, so nerdypants can talk about their video games and such amp, i'm starting to see a trend. you like courtney, i think she's trash. you like pitt, he makes my stomach turn. we be chalk and cheese, love-worshipper.
