luke, Speak for yourself on Showbiz. I loved that album before OOS was released.
I totally agree though - there are countless great second albums out there and we could all list thousands of 'em. The real feat is following a classic debut with a second album just as great. Avoiding Stone Roses sydrome.

I saw 'Adventure' on here by Television....I've only heard it once, a long time ago, and while partying, so I don't really remember it....Anyway, how does it fair against the excellent 'Marquee Moon'?

Or Guns N' Roses....Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 would've made for a killer single album, but two albums was a bit much IMO, and made it impossible to follow the superior 'Appetite For Destruction' (which may be one of rock's best debuts ever IMO).

It doesn't stack up well against Marquee Moon, but few albums do. If Television's first album wasn't so fucking brilliant though, Adventure would probably be much more highly regarded. Taken on it's own, it's very, very good, just not the classic that it followed.

Isn't Anything, by My Bloody Valentine. So good, people forget that there was an album before that.

Well then, maybe Showbiz was a bad example, because I was pretty much oblivious to the guys until folks started touting OOS, and didn't realize they'd ever had any hype until then. And if they did, I was too busy in 1997 going to the shady little record store in the middle of the local ghetto to get the latest batch of illegal posthumous Tupac bootlegs to have really paid attention to much going on with rock hype regarding bands I wasn't familar with.
