Yeah, so I finally bought a DVD player, a number of years behind the rest of the developed world. I'm personally not much of a movie fan, so it'll probably see most of its action playing music DVDs, and hence the creation of this thread. Do a lot of people here buy and watch them?
So far I've mainly been playing some of the bonus DVDs that came with my CD purchases. Some are good, but most are kind of throwaway - usually just a couple of video clips that don't really bear repeated viewings. But they're bonus stuff, so it's not as if I have much cause to complain.
One DVD that I actually did purchase was a collection of Mayumi Kojima's (who else?) video clips. The low-budgetness of some of her earliest clips are absolutely flabbergasting - but I guess they're kind of endearing in their own way. My main grievance with this DVD is that it doesn't feature a collection of Mayumi in Swimsuit footage, but I'm a big boy so I'm not gonna cry home to Mommy or anything.
What will probably happen (unless this thread gets zero traffic or something) is that people will talk about all these cool DVDs that I can't watch because of this stupid region shit but oh well.

There are region hacks out there on the web that will show you how to get around it. If you google it, I think there are still brave people out there that can show you how to solve or get around that problem.
I'm having the same problem right now, but I downloaded a hack to watch this Takeshi Miike box set I ordered on Ebay on my iBook. I'm not fond of watching movies on computers, but I love Miike so much that I will make this exception.

He's the guy that did Koroshiya Ichi right? I actually saw that movie because I'm a fan of the original manga. The amount of bloodletting was absolutely unreal (not that the manga was any less violent).

Same guy and yes, that is probably in my Top 5 of his movies right there. I, too, have the Manga ( I try to collect the more weird and horror Manga that I can) and thought it was a pretty good interpretation.

I can only think of a handful of exceptions.

I bought this baby: That's Shinji Sato on the cover, deceased singer of Fishmans. They were by far one of the most creative and influential Japanese bands of the 90s, who I unfortunately didn't become a fan of until pretty recently, after Sato had already passed away. The remaining band members "reformed" last year (though to be precise, drummer Kinichi Motegi was the only remaining Fishman when Sato died, but he gathered the supporting musicians they used to play with, along with departed bassist Yuzuru Kashiwabara) for a tour. They employed various vocalists to fill in Sato's role, whicy may sound quite sacrilegeous - I'd imagine that an outrage would erupt if Mick, Paul, and Topper did the same, for instance. But fuck me, when those vocalists include people like UA, Chung Ho Sai, Takashi Nagazumi, Ikuko Harada etc., it's really, really, really, really hard to complain. They made a movie out of this tour, and it actually saw a theatrical release. Disc One is the movie, which to be honest I could give two shits about. It's the all-live-footage Disc Two that makes me scream in euphoria.

This wonderful concert footage captures the band's best, most introspective qualities from a show back in 2003. Whenever I want to turn any music lover onto Opeth - I usually make them listen to their album DAMNATION -- the one completely devoid of any ~death vocals ~death metal so they may realize just what an amazing, accomplished group of musicians Opeth really are. This DVD performs that function with the added bonus of easing the listener into their older school (thus heavier) music in a manner similar to that of easing into colder water: after a few unsettling moments, you adapt to the temperature change easily and sink into the blissful melodies these heavy metal veterans conjure with surprising ease. Viewers also get to witness their lead singer/songwriter Mikhael and see what a great guy he is, like everyone's favorite uncle or older brother. A mandatory item for music afficionadoes -- and recommended for those who aren't into the heavy stuff, based on their exquisite classical musicianship alone.

I just ordered that Opeth DVD and it should be coming very very soon. I'm also anticipating that Opeth/Dream Theater side project that is coming along soon as well.

I saw them for the first (and only) time in Atlanta within several months of this particular show, and decided to grab this recently. Watched it the other night and it's a similar set list. My wife walked in during either "Papa Won't Leave You, Henry" or "The Mercy Seat" and asked me what on earth I was watching and to please turn it down. Sometimes she just doesn't get it...

my absolute favorite music dvd. I own countless others (okay, countable) but for some reason I've dug into this little chunk of plastic more than anything else.
