Kerrang's 50 greatest punk records

Kerrang have put together their list of "The 50 Greatest Punk Albums of all time" and it's a piece of shit. While I was pleased to see the inclusion of Quicksand, Refused, The Get Up Kids, and The Undertones, can someone please explain how Blink 182 and The Offspring are placed so high on this list.

And for that matter, how do Green Day and the Dead Kennedys wind up at #2 and #3?

Was it just me or is this list devoid of anything from X? That voids the whole thing right there.

Ok. Having Rancid ranked above The Clash is like saying Pat Boone was better than Elvis.
Blink 182 has never been nor will they ever be good. I ask you to look at both of the bands from those guys post break up and honestly tell me they don't suck.

The Offspring have to be by far one of the lamest bands I have had the displeasure of hearing. Also, "Nevermind" was just not a punk rock record to me. I don't get it. It was just a rock record, plain and simple.

NOFX ranking higher than Fugazi makes me want to vomit.

I have and will always HATE Sublime. Nothing more than another idiot white guy junkie highjacking ethnic sounds and culture. The only thing sublime about them is that they are no longer playing their shitty music. I know he's dead, I'm not a total dick, I wouldn't wish that on anyone just because their music sucks. In fact, I wish he were still alive so I could see him walk down the street and have an opportunity to heckle his dumb ass.

Napalm Death is death metal, dudes. Death. Metal.

London Calling at #13 is a joke. That's the one album on the list that sometimes gets consideration as best album of all time in any genre.

Yeah, that's a very poorly considered list. I think I like Green Day probably more than anyone else here, but I wouldn't put them at #2. My god. And yeah, where the hell is X?!?!

Their offices should be torched for putting Blink-182 over the Stooges. Seeing those names back-to-back and with Blink-182 getting the higher ranking blows my mind.

Now I love my Dead Kennedys, Ken, but even I would put them in the 20s on my list for "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables".

Um, where the fuck are the Germs, man? THE GERMS!

The Minutemen's "Double Nickels on the Dime" is about the punkist album I have ever heard and that slays ANYTHING from the pop punk revivalist 90s.

I have to say it again: I really really really HATE NOFX.

They had some cool articles on Black Metal in the late 90s (granted, I've read "Lords of Chaos" and know now that most of it happened in the early 90s, but I was just not at the age to appreciate that stuff yet) that got me into some cool stuff from those guys.

Yeah, where is Double Nickels on the Dime? Or Husker Du's New Day Rising? How about Television's Marquee Moon -- or for that matter, anything from the NYC scene aside from the Ramones? RICHARD HELL'S BLANK GENERATION for cryin' out loud!

In fact, I'd go so far to say that I hate the whole "punk subculture" these days. I know it's an easy target, but quite frankly those guys, the indie rock kids, the emo date rapists, and the rockasilly kids can suck a big dong as far as I'm concerned. It's not the Hot Topic phenomenon either, let's face it, who ever started that buisness was a genius: take money from young kids' yuppie parents while you sell them T-shirts to half way decent bands. I don't know why "punk rock" kids these days bother me, but they bother me.

I still have a soft spot for the metal-heads and the goths.............as ridiculous as I know they can be.

Knowing the state of Kerrang these days, I'm surprised there's no Aiden, My Chemical Romance or any of these other screamo-posterboybands they champion these days on that list.

But at least a list with GBH on it.

I assume that they were consciously trying to not lean too heavily on late '70s and early '80s releases and to include some newer things, so as not to alienate a younger audience. However, the order of the rankings is still dumb, and they made some pretty bad choices from every era.

Double Nickels on the Dime and Marquee Moon should both be in the top 5.

Is Television considered a punk band?

Usually. Depends on whether you come from the punk-is-a-sound or a punk-is-an-attitude school of thought. But they came out of that legendary CBGBs scene (and I almost want to say were the first of those bands to play there?), and are usually lumped in with the Ramones, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Talking Heads, Suicide, etc.
