Yeah, but you decided that before the album even came out. There's not a bad song on it. I've only heard the singles and they're fucking embarassing. It's alright, Riley, I'm embarrassed when I dance too.

Stadium Arcadium, we'll ignore the fucking terrible title, could've been a pretty decent single disc...as with most double albums...RHCP just aren't interesting enough for 2 1/2 hours. A bunch of songs sound the same and it has some of the worst lyrics Tony K has written in a long time. I like new Chili Peppers much more then old but the new album was a misstep imo.

If you listen to RHCP for the lyrics, then you're missing the point. Occassionally Ant stumbles onto something good, but that's just a bonus. It's all about Flea and especially Frusciante. And the melodies. Anthony's gotten awfully good with the melodies over the last few albums.

No, he's never written especially good lyrics but sometimes they're so bad it's makes the whole song hard to listen to.
Fruscante owns that album. Easily the best thing about it.

Frusciante rules, but RHCP are better when their guitar players are high on heroin.

Also. Can we please divert Kenny's cool thread back to something relevant. Like anything other than RHCP?

Yeah, let's get back to Zeppelin bashing. Every thread here seems to turn into one. ;D

RHCP can be in the top 10 when they start singing about panties and fucking female cops on cars again. Until then they're the equivalent of a funkier Coldplay.

Frusciante was high as fuck on Mother's Milk too. Some of his best work. Actually I guess it turns out he was high as fuck on Blood Sugar too. So yeah, case in point. Hit save now.

I was under the impression that he didn't get seriously into heroin until after leaving the band. He was a big pothead, and dabbled with harder stuff, but he wasn't really messed up on heroin on a regular basis until later on. Or so I'd thought.

Could be actually. I was just being an asshole because I really don't think they have the same spark since he left the first time. His playing is still solid. I just think they they'e flat as hell. I know this is another one of my broken record habits, but it really stems from being so passionate about them in high school when Mother's MIlk was out to watching them really evolve into the equivalent of adult orieted radio rock imo. I'll leave them alone for good now I swear. Plus I have a cool list to prepare.

See, my first RHCP album was One Hot Minute, so it's hard for me to be too much of a purist. They were certainly better during Frusciante's first stint in the band than they are now, but I just sort of get the sense that a lot of people dislike their new stuff because of what it isn't rather than what it is. So it's not the album you want to hear from them, that's cool, but removed from the context of their earlier stuff, it's a damn fine album. And a lot of it is actually just as funky as the old stuff. A lot of it isn't, too. But there's definately a whole lot more of the pure funk than there is on anything they've done since BSSM.

I know what you're saying about people being quick to dismiss. Maybe I'm in that category. It's not even the funk or the silliness I'm looking for. Truth be told that's not what made me a fan. It was the energy. They used to be frantic and spontaneous. Even with a certain amount of necessary maturity they just seem way too calculating now.
