Some evil people over at the What Are You Listening thread (namely, Ken Holzman) inspired me to listen to Exile on Main Street for the first time in years last night, and a silly thought occurred to me: oh man, it would be so awesome if Mayumi Kojima covered these songs. No one could recreate Charlie Watts' drumming of course, but Asa-Chang could totally jazz up the rhythm, and I'd love to hear Tsukamoto play those guitar licks. Of course, Mayumi would probably struggle with the pronunciation of the English lyrics, but this is all in my head so I can just pretend that it won't be a problem.
...I don't know, maybe this is a terrible idea, but that's what I thought when I heard the album. And then I thought "hey, maybe this might be a cool idea for a thread!" (I need help)
So do you guys have any "man, it'd be so cool if so-and-so covered this song/album" ideas?

I've always wanted to hear a blue grass cover of "Crackity Jones". I dunno enough about blue grass to pick out who should do it, but that song would sound incredible with some yokel twang and a lightning fast banjo.

I've always wanted to start a honky tonk bar band that does indie/alternative songs. Not in an ironic way though, actually rearranging the songs for the format.

Be careful what you wish for! I'm getting inundated with all these bluegrass-, dub-, string quartet- and (80s) metal tributes to anything from AC/DC to Aiden. Not to mention the Rockabye Baby-series with lullaby renditions of classics from Nirvana, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Pixies and so on. Outside of the Christopher O'Riley-piano versions of Radiohead I haven't given too much care about any of them but these days there's tons of cover-albums about.

I think it'd be funny for Pat Boone to do some Zep or Nirvana covers... Oh, wait a minute...

I'd like to hear Pearl Jam cover a Kinks song. Something obscure though, not "You Really Go Me" or anything like that. Then again, I don't know...Ray and Ed Vedd have a very different vocal delivery...don't know if a Kinks song would sound goom being Pearl Jamized...."Mr. Churchill Says" would be a possible candidate. That's a very rocking song, and PJ could easily go nuts at the end of it.

one time i said "it would be cool if they(pearl jam) covered some ccr, like fortunate son or something" and then two hours later they did.
another time i said "wouldnt it be cool if the toadies played where is my mind (pixies) tonight?". and then they did.
both without any prior knowledge of previous setlists/covers/etc.
since then ive refrained from saying a band should cover such and such a song.....its a little wierd when it actually happens.
