Non poll format. Just post your faves. I would have done this on Top 10's, but I don't think we do top 10's there anymore.
I'm thinking bigger voices (range, depth, emotion, blah blah blah), but do as you wish.

And Shannon Hoon, for style, not vocal ability.

Mike Patton, Mark Lanegan, Scott Weiland & Hope Sandoval are always overlooked on lists like these.

I agree on Scott Weiland. I think he's 10x the vocalist Eddie fucking Vedder is.

Yeah, I prefer Weiland as a vocalist to Vedder. He's a little more diverse in his delivery (please listen to his solo album if you haven't already, its great).
Vedder isn't as consistent vocally, imo. Refer to Binaural.

12 Bar Blues is exactly my point. That album is sensational. There is no way Vedder could get away with singing songs like the (brilliant) ballads from that one.

...and when Vedder sings, he sounds like he can't fully open his mouth. And when he 'wails', he just ends up sounding constipated.

Gargling while constipated to put a slightly finer point on it.
The Vibrato-from-hell.

...and there's NO-one who does as many different GREAT voices as Mike Patton....
The second Tomahawk disc just blows my fucking mind....the first three songs, WHOA!

Tentative list (man, I hate ranking good things)
10. Layne Staley 9. Tori Amos 8. Hope Sandoval 7. Chris Cornell 6. Maynard James Keenan 5. PJ Harvey 4. Jeff Buckley 3. Scott Weiland 2. Mark Lanegan 1. Mike Patton
Patton is by far the number one for me. By far. I think by now it goes without saying that few vocalists are as diverse as he is. Fuck me ragged, someone who can sound just as good singing lite-metal as he does jazz-tinged MOR is all that & a bag of chips.
