Since the Bond franchise has been rescued once again recently, I thought this could be cool. "The Look of Love" is from a spoof film more than an actual Bond film but I included it for 2 reasons: 1) shits and giggles and 2) its a good song.
I was listening to my copy of The Best of James Bond: 30th Anniversary Collection (features every Bond theme - & instrumentals - up to Licence to Kill) and while I previously thought it was a toss-up between "Live and Let Die" and "A View to a Kill" I decided that "Nobody Does it Better" is the best. I'm not the biggest Carly Simon fan but she did a damn good job.
Anyway, let's see how this tallys up.

I don't think I remember the Carly Simon song. The title doesn't ring a bell. Anyway, I voted for A View To A Kill. There hasn't been a better Bond song since. The last few have been pretty bad, apart from Goldeneye which was pretty cool.

Come on -- Live and Let Die rules Bond theme songs. Except for that line, "But if this ever changing world in which we live in." Actually, I like the regular theme music best - that Ventures, fat strat guitar sound, and the big horn section that comes in...

Actually, I like the regular theme music best - that Ventures, fat strat guitar sound, and the big horn section that comes in... You probably realized this but I intentionally didn't include the Bond theme or any of the instrumentals (like "OO7" or "On Her Majesty's Secret Service") and kept the focus on the songs during the title credit sequence (although technically, "OHMSS" is played during a title credits sequence and Armstrong's number comes later in the film). I wanted to focus on the songs with vocals and lyrics in this case.

Oh, yeah, I knew that, Adam. I'll go with Live or Let Die for that, but I think we both know the coolest music is the main theme, the John Barry thing. In the Mojos, we used to do a bit of Peter Gunn in a medley into Voodoo Chile, but I always wanted to do the Bond theme.

I voted Live & Let Die. I just blank out Axel’s version. This new one though blows HUGE chunks. It’s horrid enough in the movie but one of the neighboring FM station up here treats it like the second coming. Soooooo much over play a persons ears could bleed.

As much as I love Live and Let Die (Macca's version only, I absolutely detest Axel's squealing version), I've got to go with Goldfinger on this. It's a great performance, the over the top melodramic production perfectly fits Bond: just like the rest of the movie, the them from Goldfinger sets the standard for all later Bond films.
After that, I'd agree that Nobody Does It Better is a great Bond theme; I'm with Strat that I like the Venturesque guitar swagger of the proper James Bond theme; I love the overblown Tom Jones of Thunderball (how could anyone sing those lyrics with a straight face?); A View to a Kill was a theme I really liked at the time, not sure just how well it's held up; A-Ha's theme was perfectly mediocre, perfect for Dalton; loved Madonna's Die Another Day, and the themes from Rita Coolidge and Sheryl Crow were absolutely forgettable.
