Let me know how that is, Adam. I just couldn't get myself to pull the trigger since the first release is such a grand set already.

Weeps -- anything different on that Toy Story reissue? I've got the Toy Story/Toy Story 2/Extras 3 DVD set from a few years back.

A "Toy Story" re-reissue ??
How many times will they milk that cash cow ??
This looks like the "Live at Leeds" of movies ...

Weeping, I finished watching the longer version and I was quite satisfied. It seamlessly integrated deleted scenes found on the previous 2-disc set and a few other scenes previously unreleased (I can't remember which) that fleshes out supporting characters, namely Lucia and Commodus. Ridley Scott makes it clear in a video introduction that his preferred cut is the theatrical cut but I think the new version works as well. I've just started on the Scott and Russell Crowe commentary and it's quite entertaining.
As for the rest of the set, damn, I don't know when I'll ever get through that: a 3 1/2 hour documentary on one disc and a disc full of new supplements. The man who produced the disc produced the gigantic Alien Quadrilogy box set, Spider-Man 2 and many other Ridley Scott DVDs (Black Hawk Down, Legend, Thelma & Louise, Hannibal). He's really good at his job.
The video and audio quality is terrific but I think its the same as the previous disc (which is reference quality; but no DTS track if you care about that sorta thing).
My advice: if you're a fan, this is a must buy but hold on the 2-disc set.
I don't know if this is the case overseas, Phil, but the 3-disc set (that Ken mentioned) is discontinued (and costly on ebay). I've read that the video/audio transfer is so much better and that the supplements are a mix-and-match of old and new. But, I'll let Weeping disclose that info.

By the time it came to mind that I didn't own the 2 Toy Story movies the 'Ultimate Toy Box' set was well out of print and highly sought after, creating prices beyond what I wanted to pay. Most of this release is all new and I must say ideal for people who missed out on the stuff that went out of print before.

holy shit . . . well I'm still glad I got the initial theatrical release (I could not have waited until mid-December to watch Sin City again). But it doesn't mention anything about the reputed feature of being able to watch each of the story-arcs uninterrupted. I wonder if it will feature that...
*cool!*

I'll probably have to spring for it when it comes out, but I'm kinda with Thorn. I'm glad I bought the initial release, I wouldn't have been able to wait that long. In fact, I watched it last night.

Patience is very rewarding, if you ask me. Why keep a version that you may never revisit once you've bought an updated one (and what is arguably the intended release)? I mean, you may, but I don't think I would if I bought the dvd already available. I've sold original versions or given them to family members in lieu of upcoming or exisiting re-releases (e.g., Batman, Batman Returns, Jaws, Brotherhood of the Wolf). Only if there's something unique/valuable about them, I still keep them around.
However, the one thing that irks me is, oddly enough, the inclusion of the Hard Goodbye novel. This obviously made the price go up but I already own a copy of this. A gift for a friend, perhaps?

Bought this yesterday morning. I previously had copies of these 2 films but then sold them earlier this year (along with a few other titles) to pay an auto insurance bill. Luckily, I found a brand new copy of them both together for $15. Basically, I love this stuff. After seeing Hard Boiled on cable (dubbed, no less), I was floored by what John Woo and his collaborators accomplished and just had to digest whatever else was available. By this time (that I saw it), he had already made 2 films in America (Hard Target and Broken Arrow), both of which, I would learn, could never stand up to the films he made in Hong Kong. These 2 are quite remarkable but they're really a taste of what was to come (Bullet In The Head, The Killer, Hard Boiled). Terrific performances, creative direction, unabashed sentimentality (which mars some scenes) and the ultimate in slo-mo action scenes, blood squibs and guns which never need reloading (until it becomes convenient or inconvenient). Best of all, these films unleashed Chow Yun-Fat onto the world. " I give you nothing, man! I give you shit!"
