So here's a purchasing decision I'm sure some of you will (or may be tempted to) give me shit for: Say what you will about the unbeliveable popularity and Oscars it recieved 8 years ago. Feel free to comment on some comical, ludicrous dialogue. Wax poetic about how much a control freak Cameron is. Use as many superlatives to describe DiCaprio's then-legendary level of douchebaggery. After the smoke clears and the attention died down (and not having watched it in a long while helps), its still pretty clear that this is a very entertaining film in every way. Cameron's commentary is ace. He of course never mentions the troubled production (because he would have to bring a few skeletons outta the closet; it also explains why a completed documentary was not included on the Region 1 release) but he's worth a listen since he has a lot of other stuff to disclose. That's the only extra I've got through, though. This fucker is jam-packed.

Weeping_Guitar: What do you think of the Clone Wars cartoons? I rented both, and thought they were better than the damn movies (prequels)....Episode 1 should have been Episode 2, and Episode 2 should have been these Clone Wars cartoons....I can't believe all the stuff Lucas left out of the films, only to have cartoons fill in all the cool stuff I was hoping to see on the big screen all along.
I suppose this is the wrong thread for this, maybe we should start a SW thread??

I suppose this is the wrong thread for this, maybe we should start a SW thread?? I like them, but I think it's too easy to say they should replace the films. In the medium alone they had a lot of freedom. I can't argue with the fact that more of the essential moments of the prequels should have been spread out among the films. So much happened in the final film, and that's just part of why it turned out so well. The collaborative effort is, I think, what really made it turn out so well, which is true of everything Lucas has done where he's allowed others to be an essential part of a project.

adam . . . you'll have to let us know what you thought of the "recut", unrated version of Sin City. Man I want that shit. . . I've watched them yesterday and they're actually broken up into their segments (to keep the feel of reading the books one at a time; nice). To be honest, though, what the theatrical version displayed and got away with was pretty much 90-95% of the books, so what we've got left is small moments: Marv visiting his mother (and picking up his trusty gun); more of Carla Gugino's Lucille in The Yellow Bastard (she's Willis' parole officer and pastes him one when he tells her his plan to confess); an additional Miho moment at the end of Big Fat Kill (she dispatches a few villians that escape the shooting very creatively). There may be some other additions I've forgotten but they're so seamlessly put back in that I didn't notice. Right now, I'm watching the theatrical cut while listening to audience reactions (recorded at the film's premiere in Austin, TX). This was a brilliant idea; a first maybe?
