Bah, that Munich set is sold out everywhere. Even Amazon is out. I suppose I'll have to either wait or search around online, but damn them for thinking demand would be so low.

The $5 DVD bin at Wal-Mart was STACKED last night. 48 Hours, Dragonslayer, Romper Stomper, Rules of Attraction, Trading Places, School Ties...I love that $5 bin. I've added everything from Hot Shots to Plan 9 From Outer Space to Singles thanks to that thing. Quality.

At least 3 copies were available at one store before I left town last Friday. 2 days later, all copies are gone and none of the retailers were selling it (I asked department heads for info on the 2-disc and some of them acted like they didn't know what I was talking about). I stumbled upon my copy at the local Barnes & Noble. I had to pay $40 ($10 more than the other place) but fuck it, I wanted that set bad.

For $5: Did I really need to buy another DVD this week? No. I remember this being really trippy ... let me know how it holds up. Watched Highlander today on AMC or some channel ... held up surprisingly well, IMO. Not a great film, but great (slightly) cheesy fun.

I haven't seen it in a while so all I've got is subliminal flashes and I need to refresh my memory. I've been playing one of the Silent Hill games and I've read that this inspired the series (ask The Lady about that to be sure).
Highlander...oh man...say the wrong thing about that film or Chris Lambert and Layla will want to decapitate you with a sword. I learned that lesson over on the Sedaka site.

I've debated myself on that set, Adam. I liked the theatrical cut, but I had never seen a film so obviously cut up. There are some fantastic reviews for this rightful version.

I watched it last night, all 3 hours of it. Couldn't help myself 'cause I've been waiting on this one. You won't believe the difference an hour of footage makes. A lot of it is more character and story related, which is what the theatrical cut lacked. Everyone looks a lot better. I liked Bloom a lot more in this one; in fact, I'd say its his best performance. The one who really REALLY shines is Eva Green. There's a subplot involving her son who actually inherited the throne before her asshole French husband takes and what happens her and the boy is so powerful and tragic. Remember how disjointed the beginning felt, how relations were awkward? Both Balian and Godfrey have kin in the town and the phrase "sibling rivarly" doesn't quite say it. Balian is a former soldier, strategist and war machine engineer? Well, gee, that explains a bit!
Anyway, I could go on and on. This is really the version everyone should see and its one of Scott's best films, especially more so than Gladiator, which so many assholes felt it necessary to compare both when they're different films.
And this sucker is chock full of supplements. Consider me flabbergasted as to how I'll ever finish watching them.

I haven't seen it in a while so all I've got is subliminal flashes and I need to refresh my memory. I've been playing one of the Silent Hill games and I've read that this inspired the series (ask The Lady about that to be sure). There are direct references to Jacob's Ladder in Silent Hill 3 -- the character in the game, Heather, ends up in a subway station searching for the Bergen Street platform, which is the name of the street Tim Robbins asks the weird lady about at the beginning of the movie. Later in the game you'll also see the Session 9 wheelchair at the end of a hallway, separated from you by a sheet of glass. But these games make so many references to movies and bands and writers that it's really quite amazing. All of the streets are named after authors, and if you look carefully, you'll see a Portishead poster in a cafe in SH1, and a list of faculty names found at an elementary school you must go through are all members of Sonic Youth. I can't believe they let the Silent Hill movie turn out to be such a disappointment to us hardcore fans. Still, it's one DVD I can't wait to own, just to listen to the commentary.

Well, let's hope Gans' commentary (should he record one) is in english or with english subtitles, because on Le Pacte De Loups the commentary was in French with no subtitles. Bastards.
