My list so far:
1. Smashing Pumpkins "Zeitgeist", which for now and ever will be known as "Shitegeist" as far as I am concerned. I had a friend who went and saw one of the shows in California and he walked away so pissed off it wasn't even funny. The dude forgot how to play most of his songs and then ranted on the stage for 30 minutes about how no one likes his new album. That guy should go back to sticking hist hotdog down the hallways of Courntey Love and thinking of ways to goth up old Rush records.
2. Modest Mouse "The Album Sank Even Before Johnny Marr" Ack! I hate this record and Marr can't polish up what a turd it is. I give Issac Brock another year and he'll be acting just like Billy Corgan.
3. Talk of the Guns N Roses Reunion with the original line up: Who cares....I know most people will be I think paying a 100 bucks to hear 10 songs is bordering on psychotic.

That new Bill Callahan (formerly known as just Smog) is going downhill very fast. That record is just terrible.

Uh and I found this post on Metacritic that made me VERY happy.
GG Allin Know-It-All Posted 14 February 2007 12:19 PM Hide Post the new explosions in the sky seems very derivative. the first track was pure torture .. so much so that I haven't even bothered with the rest of the album. written off ! maybe they should stick to sappy sport soundtracks. These are probably the worst albums I've heard this year... Chris Cornell is the 'winner' of course.
6. Interpol – Our Love To Admire 5. Kaiser Chiefs – Yours Truly Angry Mob 4. Patti Smith – Twelve 3. Brett Anderson – Brett Anderson 2. Beastie Boys – The Mix Up 1. Chris Cornell – Carry On

That is a really good list, Kool! That new Interpol has to be one of the most banal dialed in performances I have ever heard.
I really wanted to like that new Brett Anderson, since I love Suede so much, but even my affection for his past glories don't excuse that mess.
I think the Beastie Boys should just give it up.
I never liked the Kaiser Chiefs.

I almost forgot: The Stooges "The Weirdness" is just AWFUL, BAD, and INEXCUSABLE.

Era Vulgaris is the worst album I've heard this year. Pure shit.

Ouch y'all, re: the BBoys
I don't hope they give it up - I think they're kinda classy going out w/ the suits and getting reacquainted with their instruments. While I don't hate 'The Mix Up', I don't love it either. I stick by what I said about it being a good background record at a party/BBQ. What I would like to see of the Beasties in the future is more along the lines of Hello Nasty - that one had a really cool eclectic mix of sounds. 'The Mix Up' drags in places, and feels a bit unfinished. Over the course of the next few years I think it would be cool for them to explore more with the instruments, put lyrics - think of songs like "Song For The Man", "Flowin' Prose", or "Instant Death" from Hello Nasty. TMU has potential, but it's just underdeveloped IMO. "Off The Grid" from TMU is a worthy song, and to me highlights this potential I refer to.
So is Interpol's album that bad? I liked the last one.

Interpol's new album sounds like a lazy re-write of the last one.

Exactly, ded. Exactly.
I just felt like the Beasties have been sort of treading water for a while and for the reasons that you mentioned, the background music thing, it just isn't good enough for what I'm used to with those guys. It could be a lot better......which makes it that much more frustrating for me to listen to.

Yeah, that's true. Good 'background music' isn't enough. If that's the criteria, Chris Cornell's album would sound pretty damn good in a supermarket.

The Weirdness may not be great - but it certainly isn't 'inexcusable'. There's even a couple pretty cool tunes on it, imo.
