No, it's a two way street. You didn't simply say "Shin, I disagree with that statement", it was clearly sarcastic. So no, it doesn't HAVE to come from my perception. You could have said it differently. It's not a big deal, though, but it's just not the case to say that I'm the only person who's had the misunderstanding in this.

I think this was the key part of your post. I agree and disagree with your assesment for exactly the same reason. I detest our ratings-crazed media (which is the real problem, not a liberal or conservative bias) for pushing stories like Laci Peterson and Michael Jackson, stuff that affects virtually no one outside the immediate players other than instilling morbid fascination, and leaving the little things, the things that matter, out. That being said, part of journalism IS having some sort of draw. You can put a story on the front page but you can't make people read it. And tabloidy headlines like "STAIRWAYS OF DEATH" won't make up for a lack of inherant interest. I think that this sort of thing is much more important for government officals to know about, anyways. But then again, you are an avowed CSPAN junkie so you might not be able to understand that

But then again, you are an avowed CSPAN junkie so you might not be able to understand that I agree and disagree here. First, I agree with the notion that the ratings-obsession in the media is far more of a problem than a right or left bias. I agree that for the newspaper/network/station, having a draw does matter. But I would argue that is a concern of the pogramming or circulation departments, and not the news department. And, perhaps, in the case of every newspaper, and network, the programmers and circulation people made the call with this one, but given the news cycle, I doubt it. I'm not sure that i agree with the idea that this is an issue for the law makers to worry about, rather than average citizens. I say that because of the number of times we've seen that if the citizens don't care, the lawmakers won't do anything. The guy tetifying yesterday kept talking about the Time Warner building in NYC, that opened after 9/11. In building that, they had the chance to do things like widening stairwells, but they didn't. Why would they? They don't have to. And what motivation do the lawmakers have to require it if the citizens don't see the need. It's a troubling circle. The lawmakers won't worry if the voters don't. The voters won't worry about what they don't know about. The media won't report on what the viewers don't care about. We ALL leave way too much room being lazy for important things to fall thorugh the cracks. Then the next time there is a disaster in one of these buildings, from terrorism or a simpleelectrical fire that gets out of hand, what will happen? The media will suddenly get excited about it saying "Lawmakers were warned back in 2004 in a 9/11 commission hearing that stairwells weren't wide enough". Average citizens will be outraged that lawmakers didn't do anything about it. Lawmakers will say "We didn't have the support or means to do it". We'll all be outraged, and we'll probably hold a bunch of hearings. But thank goodness ... we'll know where Scott Peterson is!

God, I hope you're not so full of shit in ALL facets of your dealings with people...especially when they've pretty much got you pegged. Ease up on your neurosis, eh?
Allow me to inform you of what transpired, so your posts can come across as objective, as you claim you are...
Shin, all this is very well and good, but it's bullshit to go on for the last 7 pages of posts treating this all as a general "Shin, YOU are the one treating 'wrong' as an absolute AND as an insult to you" and then try to redirect it to the specific instance 80-some posts ago...which wasn't EVEN a worthwhile point from which to BEGIN something like this bullshit overreaction from you. But as a tactic, it's typical of you.
Your comment
-So, does that mean that if...Bush and Ashcroft as well as Rumsfeld signed off on a legal maneuver to make such torture possible, abandoning the Geneva Convention and opening the door for US soldiers to be "accused of war crimes"...we should only bring punishment as far up the ladder just until it becomes politically damaging?
-a nice wiiide brush ever so BARELY touched on the WIDE-ranging themes of Hoagland's excellent article as it was. Hoagland did speak of the 'over-inflationof this for partisan gain', yes.
'A+ in the truth'? Oooooh, you DO like to have EVERYONE believe you're right, doncha? In compassion... In 'right' and 'wrong'... ...and for GOD's sakes DON't question my use of semantics! Never!
....aaah, THERE's that obnoxious scale you saddled on Chrisfan. And of course trying to go from the specific.
GodfuckingDAMN....all I was saying was NONE of us understand OR express each other perfectly in this fucking medium! That YOU know YOURSELF and your own thoughts so so SO incredibly well, does NOT mean that you expressed them understandably to EVERYONE. Get this and plz get on to whatever OTHER 'major issue' you wish to solve for us here...
Your perfection grates.

Could someone please let me know who this raving lunatic is, and confirm for me that he doesn't speak for a sizable portion of any ideology, before I flee to Canada??? I don't really keep up with right-wing talk show hosts and such, so I'm not aware of the new blood post-Rush Limbaugh, but I stumbled on these quotes while reading salon.com's Right Hook and couldn't believe it. Who is this guy??
Michael Savage on his radio program on May 11th:
I think there should be no mercy shown to these sub-humans. I believe that a thousand of them should be killed tomorrow. I think a thousand of them held in the Iraqi prison should be given 24 hour -- a trial and executed. I think they need to be shown that we are not going to roll over to them ... Instead of putting joysticks, I would have liked to have seen dynamite put in their orifices and they should be dropped from airplanes ... They should put dynamite in their behinds and drop them from 35,000 feet, the whole pack of scum out of that jail.
(...)
Right now, even people sitting on the fence would like George Bush to drop a nuclear weapon on an Arab country. They don't even care which one it would be. I can guarantee you -- I don't need to go to Mr. Schmuck [pollster John] Zogby and ask him his opinion ... The most -- I tell you right now -- the largest percentage of Americans would like to see a nuclear weapon dropped on a major Arab capital. They don't even care which one...
I think these people need to be forcibly converted to Christianity ... It's the only thing that can probably turn them into human beings.
I'm going to give you one further example from my background as an anthropologist just so that you -- I'm trying to put context on this because you can go crazy if you don't have the context on this, because I'm going to lead up to something of what we must do to these primitives. Because these primitives can only be treated in one way, and I don't think smallpox and a blanket is good enough incidentally ... Smallpox in a blanket, which the U.S. Army gave to the Cherokee Indians on their long march to the West, was nothing compared to what I'd like to see done to these people.
Charming..
Cheers, M

Charming.. Cheers, MIf Ann Coulter is the Al Franken of the right, then Michael Savage is the Michael Moore of the right. I would not dare put him in the same light as Limbaugh ... whether you're a lefty or a righty, it's not fair to insult Limbaugh like that. Michael Savage is the radio guy who lost his MSNBC show when he made several comments to a gay caller about hoping he died of AIDs. He's one of those who is far more interested in spewing hate than he is in advancing ANY ideology.

Sarcastic or not, to even be capable of saying those things, and then bringing Christianity into it....is just sickening. But thats probably how he keeps his name out there and still manages to have a career. Sad really.

You seem to understand me pretty well, in your clearly humble, objective opinion. You know, veracity and what not.
Newsflash: the argument between Chrisfan and I stemmed off two things: the tone we used, which was unfortunate, but we dealt with it long ago, and the misunderstanding, which took longer to flesh out. It had nothing to do with me "painting a wide brush" over your precious, precious article. All you've done is interject yourself in something you aren't involved in and complicated it, clearly feeling you have the wisdom and understanding to state my "typical" "tactics" and "neurosis". Oh, yes, it's a *tactic* for me to point out what I've been trying to explain this entire time, what you've refused to even consider. How cunning of me. How treacherous.
No, no, you wrote the script the instant you saw my name. It's just a matter of fitting what transpires into that pre-existing paradigm. You know me better than I know myself it seems. And yet you've been wrong on pretty much everything, but more to the point, you're incredulous that I should be so bold as to suggest it, to suggest that you're out of line.
"Me? 'Snob?' *scoff* The nerve! I can read you like an open book, boy!"
As if. Not personal, huh. Hah. Oh, the ego. Armchair psychiatrist, as they'd say.
The convictions you bring to the table are so hard to let go, aren't they...you know me SO WELL...the more you try to define me, the less you spend defining yourself. The less you spend taking responsibility for what YOU do.
I've already apologized to Chrisfan. It was a misunderstanding. It's done.
Are you ready to say the same thing?

Please unban Knightschool. His being HMF was a prank that he didn't do a good job of keeping secret. He meant no harm and he's not a troll, let alone is he actually HMF. I can attest to this personally. The real HMF has yet to come to this site.

Hi, Drum gave me the link to here. Sorry to hear that RS died and may not be back. I had not been there for nearly two years but thought I would dip my metaphorical toe in the water...
It is interesting to note that the same topics are being discussed here as were being discussed two years ago.
What does this say?
