I've heard several people on various news programs this afternoon "extending their condolences" to Bill Clinton and his family. Isn't that an inappropriate choice of words? On the programs he proposed ... I agree with you that they didn't thrill me, and I agree with you that thoe are the sorts of things that in my eyes blow holes in the Bush as ultra-conservative mantra. But if you have to have that kind of stuff, I'd rather the programs be of the "help people to help themselves" kind that he proposed than the "we're going to hand things out to people we choose" approach of Kerry. I've been thinking about this since I typed it, and I think I have to revise it. I can't say that i'd be mad to see some of the programs he proposed come to fruition in the same way I was mad to see McCain-Feingold or the drug benefit for medicare signed. A great deal of what he proposed was more enpowering people, falling under the "Ownership Society" umbrealla, than your typical "let the government fix it" type of program. And that's one of the things I've always liked the best -- his belief in people achieving great things when they are enpowered. So maybe I'm not the conservative I think I am. Maybe George W Bush isn't either. I want to know more about some of these programs. I might end up liking them. |

good news for bill! the doctor says that he otherwise is very healthy, and the chances of living through the operation are at least 98%. the doctor estimates he could be out in 4-5 days.
phew, that makes me feel better... he's too young to die. way too young.
