The good news is there is a cool north breeze coming down which will hopefully calm her down before she hits land.

Yeah, looks like Wilma is going crazy...man, I just feel numb to these things now, really.
Have to say I've taken a big interest in the "Mexican migration" to New Orleans, which many are saying is going to be responsible for a very different New Orleans in the future. The poor black population probably won't return for well over a decade, but the Hispanic community is going to explode.
Hard to look at this one without hearing the South Park "they took our jebs!" But, as I said a while back on this board, Mexican workers really don't give a fuck about the conditions they're working in. They're packing out hotels that still don't have power.
Anywhere in New Orleans is paying pretty well right now, though. Hell, Burger King is at $8.00 an hour with $6,000 in bonuses per year and full coverage. Popeye's is shelling out $10.00 an hour for workers. It's amazing how the shortage of unskilled workers, which are usually way overabundant, will do that to a normally minimum wage job.
Also bugging me is way too many people collecting food stamps and hand-outs. Ate some steaks at a barbeque last weekend that I later found out were bought with food stamps. Sickening.

Luke, am I remembering correctly that you and the Mrs honeymooned in the Cancun / Cozumel area? Or did I make that up in my mind? If so, I'm thinking you two should have a first anniversary party that serves nothing but hurricanes to drink.

Yep, we were in Playa del Carmen, which got slammed by Emily a day before we went. We actually had to go a day late, and didn't have running water the first day we were there. It was great, though, and amazing how fast they got everything up and running.
Here's my "Hurricane Record" so far this year...
Hurricane Dennis: Made us move our wedding from Fort Walton to just past Panama City. Did you know you could plan a wedding in five hours? I do now.
Hurricane Emily: A week after we labored in front of the Weather Channel watching Dennis trash our wedding destination, we see Emily trash our honeymoon. Thank God for internet message boards, though, or we'd never have gotten there only a day late.
Hurricane Katrina: Well, there's the obvious, only living a couple hours from New Orleans. Flight plans being moved to Houston, the city being flooded, absolute chaos at the workplace (I work for a subsidiary of United Way.)
Hurricane Ophelia: Okay, so we sort of dodged the bullet on this one, but it's worth noting. We were flying to Allentown for my cousin's wedding, and the whole thing was supposed to be rained all over due to Ophelia. Everyone joked that it was gonna be our fault...haha. The weather stayed nice, though, so it wasn't so big a deal.
Hurricane Rita: Where to begin? Wal-Mart, for instance, is still closing at 10:00 every night to accomodate all the restocking they have to do. Traffic in town is flooded. But more directly, my wife didn't work for two weeks, as all of Vermillion Parish got flooded. She's stressing this thing more than I still am, though, as there's all types of "refugee" kids to deal with in the schools, and a lot of the schools in Vermillion aren't up yet. And oh yeah, we had to evacuate to her parents' for about four days because of the storm.
Now I know all of this seems REALLY petty compared to, say, being raped in the Superdome, which is why I never posted all of the hurricane stuff involving my wedding in detail. It all just sounded a really petty thing to even joke about after that. But, yeah, it's been a crazy hurricane season for us...
And I can't tell you how many jugs of Pat O's hurricane mix I've been through this year! I'm sure we'll be loading up on the anniversary.

Maybe you guys should agree to name any children you may have alphabetically, like the hurricane name list.

We wanted to name our black pug after one of the hurricanes, but, well, he's a dude, and "Dennis" isn't much of a dog name.

Dennis does kind of sound like the kind of dog that robbers would pet and walk on by as they were invading a house.

Well, I mean...he's a pug, so it's not like he's going to hurt anyone. Even if he wanted to, they can't really bite with those flat faces. When my two fight each other, it looks like two hippos going at it. Just wide open mouths bashing into each other.

Correct me here but I’m damned if I don’t remember follow up stories saying the Dome rapes were unproven??? Was I dreaming?

I don't think you were dreaming. The follow up stories indicated that there was not nearly the level of crime in the Dome that was initially reported. I cannot remember if those reports said there were NO rapes or not though.

This craziness with Alpha merging with Wilma is creepy as hell.
Yeah, I read that the rapes were all unproven, but man, I just somehow doubt that they didn't happen. I know that second-hand accounts can get a bit out of hand, but I've just heard too much.
