Phil, do you know what the climate is in Israel in the winter time? Do you know the difference between the climate in Egypt and Israel in the Winter time?

It's a historic, indisputable fact that Christmas was placed in December to overshadow pagan holidays. Luke, you should really do some deeper research. You would be surprised what you might learn.

He's right though. The Christians couldn't get people to stop celebrating Saturnalia because it was so ingrained, so they just changed the meaning of the celebration and turned it into a Christian holiday. It's extremely well documented. Do Christian scholars even really dispute this?

Well, "overshadow" might not be the right word, but they were expressly designed to co-opt celebrations that already took place in areas that Chriatianity had recently spread to.

Rocky, there is a bit more to it than this though. You can indeed date the birth of Christ if you do some simple math. And the conception would be around December 25th. It is not that hard to comprehend that the solstices were used in the Bible as well as Pagan traditions to mark certain events. The seasons, and astronomy are referenced in the Bible often.

I could go into a very long explanation concerning the Passover and Easter as well. The word Easter in the new testament is indeed the Passover. In Biblical times it was celebrated EXACTLY the same time every year by the use of a 'solar' calendar. Today it falls on a different day every year. And YES many pagan rites have unfortunately slipped into this sacred holiday. It is a shame indeed!

Everyone knows the connection between Passover and Easter. But that has absolutely nothing to do with the date of Christ's birth. And a "solar" calendar is what we use today. You're thinking of a "lunar" calendar.

People actually really think that Jesus was born in December still? I thought that went out with discovering that the world wasn't flat anymore.
