I'm a huge fan of the Potter books but I'm always let down whenever I go and see the books. Apparently there was some stuff chunked from the book that was pretty essential in the 6th film, though I still have yet to see it to agree with that call. I think the 1st, 3rd, and 5th films were okay with 2nd and 4 being almost painful to sit through.

Miyazaki is the genius behind most of the Studio Ghibli films. Pixar purchased the rights to their films and has been re-releasing them with American voice overs for the last couple of years. They also distribute their films here in the theaters in the states and will be doing so for the new Ghibli film "Ponyo", which looks pretty amazing. But yes, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Tales from the North Sea, Porco Rosso, My Neighbor Totoro, Graveyard of the Fireflies are all from the same people.

my son and i went to see the 1:10 PM showing of the new 'Rio' movie, and in 3D which is ALWAYS an experience even for a so-so movie. stunning visuals of rio de janiero, including reperesentations of the slums ('daddy why is than boy sleeping on that metal roof?') where some of the story takes place. the story itself is kinda 'meh'(the last pair of blue macaws, re-united for the species' propagation), but the makers of this movie didn't shy away from possible controversy too much, incl brazilian carnaval with it's 'flamboyance' shall we say, including a slobbering bulldog hero dressed in gold lame bra and panties for the grand parade and the minnesota book shoppe heroine having to disguise herself as a showgirl dancer, bikini and feathers awhirl. SHAKE a tailfeather! i'd watch it again just to look a bit more closely at things going on in the backgrounds that i might have missed because the 3D draws you straight to the foregrounds. to use rockkid's popcorn-rating system, this is a solid 3 popcorns plus a one for having seen it in 3D...it's ballyhoo'd as 'from same the team who brought you ice age' but i find it NOT near as good as for instance the '1 and a 1/2' installment. there was an EXCELLENT short with scrat the acorn-crazy squirrel, before the main feature...follows his acorn to the earth's core and then splits up the earth's landmass into the continents through some 'nutty' antics...funnier'n shit. really.
