yeah, people don't understand, it's not that I don't like the movie, I mean I've fallen asleep at many, many great movies... It's just that I don't have trouble falling asleep and I'm always exhausted (I do, however, have beaucoup de troubles STAYING asleep!) couple that with, like you said, cold dark place relaxed in a chair and well... I slept through like, 80% of the first X-Men and one of my friends didn't even notice it and was asking me all these questions about it. And Star Wars? Any and all of 'em, when I say snoozefest, I am NOT kidding.

Movie Alert………… a movie titled Deadly starring the girl who plays Donna on That 70’s Show is soon to be released. It centers around two horrific torture/sex murders of young girls that occurred in my country. I STRONGLY urge you not to let this film maker profit!!! The families of the victims have been dragged through hell & this only adds to it. Spend your movie dollars wisely & not on this.

I went to www.imdb.com to find some details about this film, rockkid, as I knew absolutely nothing about the film or the events that its based on. My question is, what is the film's purpose and what does it have to say? It would be preposterous and avoidable if its intentions were to glorify the actions of the murderers, which lesser films do. What if it explores why the killers did what they did, who they were, and what was the end result (crimes, arrest, trial)? Two important films that dealt with real crimes, In Cold Blood and Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, explored other angles and had something to say. And neither one of them were easy to swallow. My understanding is that the film isn't released yet. Until its made clear what the film will be like, how can I make a decision on whether or not to see it?

It has been reviewed as being sympathetic to the murders (whom have been given lifetime dangerous offender status by our courts, rare move here) The female is to be released soon after many failed parole attempts.
(she pled out & testified against her husband/co accused) that’s why she only got 12 years (much outcry over that deal).
The problem lies in that these two gems filmed their actions, start to finish. There was much legal drama over the destruction & or suppression of these “home videos” after they were used in evidence. As yet they still exist.
The reenactments of what occurred in the house during their captivity & eventual deaths in this up coming film use court transcripts which contain written word of the entire footage.
The families of the two murdered girls have been living with this over their heads for years. The thought that their children won’t even have some semblance of dignity in their last moments, frightened that the footage of their tortured dying children (and they were, only 14-15 if I remember correctly) is/will be exploited for gain.
I think that explanation about covers it.

I am not sure how I feel about that one Rock. But you won’t have to worry about it making much money. It looks to be one of the indiest indies that ever indied. I predict a blink and you miss it theatrical run. Although I am a fan of Laura Prepon.

Me too, shame she has to be associated with.
Ontario’s trying to block release as we speak/type. Can’t see it getting her career pumping exposure.

So wasn’t the wife the sister of one of the victims or something?

I just did alittle research into it. First, I agree you probably don't have to worry about this being a blockbuster. I think it's obvious why Prepon picked this role. A few reveiws I read say it's not in the least sympathatic to the guy but it leaves it up to you to decide whether the girl was also in her way a victim or whether she's even more fucked then he is. As far as the parents go...I understand why they'd be upset, I can't claim to understand that kind of pain though. Being strict anti-censorship, I have to defend it's existance even if I don't agree with it or plan on seeing it. I don't plan on seeing it by the way. I understand the girl is getting out of prison soon, I think instead of worring about a movie I'd worry about her looney ass being free.

Most people up here are. Going on the assumption that you researched only the case & not her actions while incarcerated believe me no sympathy need be involved.
Since neither of the victims nor their survivors fall into the "public figure" category this hardly falls under the freedom of speech act.
We have the privacy act in Canada. I can only venture that if the same act were in place stateside you’d not see this movie made.
Her release (even though the sentence is up) is being strongly protested due to her acts in prison & mental evaluations.
In response to amp……. Yes her sister was the first victim of three. Right in her childhood home. Her spouse was also the notorious Scarborough rapist in the GTA area prior to the killings; he just hadn’t been caught yet.

I can only point that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been remade three times. If you want a movie to do well at the box office, especially one about something horrific, just tack "based on true story" under the title and people come a running. It won't be a blockbuster be it will make money based solely on the "stranger than fiction" aspect ot it.

Adam & The Cool Kids: Check this shit out -------> The movie that allegedly made Quentin Tarantino break down and cry will be released in select cities, next month: It's a Korean film which won Cannes Grand Prix when Tarantino was head of the jury. This is a serious "do not miss" vision on celluloid: OLD BOY. The following link is a review of it written last year by an associate of mine by the name of Kyu Hyun Kim: www.koreanfilm.org/kfilm03.html#oldboyAfter reading that, check out ROGER EBERT's brand-spankin' new review of OLD BOY: rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050324/REVIEWS/50310001/1023This will be the serious shizznettle.
