no one's ever happy with the way they are.. not any single human being on the planet, no matter how they look. Sometimes I forget that, I guess. I just always hoped I'd be done with my teenage neuroses by the time I was 30, and that includes the body image drama. Ho hum.

Fat people shouldn't sit on trains. Period.

True say.

If I were a dude, I'd be going for women who look like Tunes, more than women who look like me.

Fat people shouldn't sit on trains. Period. lol... The only people who shouldn't sit on trains are the ones with rampant BO. I feel like it sticks to me.

Actually, the people who really shouldn't sit on trains, or be on a train in the first place, are people who puke in them. Don't know what it's like in Australia, but we get that every once in a while over here. I'll take rampant BO over someone barfing on me any day (though fortunately, that's never happend - but I saw it happen to some poor guy once).
They should restructure the fare system so that each person's fare is proportionate to his/her weight. You do that with cargo, why not with people?

because people are not cargo.

I've never been personally puked on in a train. I'm grateful for that.
I like the idea of paying for a ticket proportionate to your size. If you could pack a train with loads of slim people, you'd have double your passenger intake. Its so efficient.

I can totally understand being resentful of people who make obnoxious comments about you for being thin, layla. But I'm not sure if the appropriate response is to be just as harsh on people who are overweight. Yes, in most cases, obesity is a result of bad personal habits. But the thing is, almost all of us have some bad personal habits - it's the unfortunate curse of obesity that your bad habits are on display on your body. Others are able to keep their bad habits more "closeted" - lucky for them.
We should also be fair and recognize that it's much much much harder for some people than others to remain reasonably slim. Healthy eating and exercise is the answer, yes, but some of us have to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more disciplined than others to get the same results. Genes do matter here.
And, finally, we can recognize that obesity is ultimately about individual responsibility while at the same time recognizing and trying to address bad cultural influences, like soda and candy machines in public schools.
btw, regarding the first post on this board --
"corporate consumer culture".... that sounds familiar.... *cough*
Cheers, M

The biggest thing that shits me about smokers is most of them are forever complaining about being a smoker. They say this as they light up another fag. Shut the hell up & stop smoking then. Your cravings aren't that bad. I had a heroin-addicted friend go cold turkey in my house & she kicked it & managed to stay off. Smokers who say they "can't" quit are also lazy. I have more respect for the ones who say "I can quit, I just don't want to".
hey i complain aboot being a smoker all the time! i went grocery shopping tonight and didn't replenish my smoke stash tho. *sigh*
and whoever "they" are says smokes are harder to quit than heroin. i don't know if i believe them, but quitting smoking is damn hard. if i go away for a week i can stop smoking, but as soon as i come back to my apt, i pick right up where i left off. i've also tried tappering off, but that isn't terribly effective so i recently got the bright idea that i'm going to chew nicorettes and substitute walking for smoking. i crave a cig at least every half hour so i leave my runners on at all times (other than when i'm in the shower) so when the urge hits, i'm ready to go!

i make sure i don't take my wallet either otherwise i'd be walking straight to 7/11. i think obviously the food choices ppl make are a huge factor. has anyone mentioned our reliance on the car? if municipalities refused to provide services out past a certain point, it'd go along way to curtailing urban sprawl and hence our need for the auto. i walk to get groceries, to go to the bank, laundry mat, to rent a movie etc. if i had a car i know i'd never walk anywhere, and i'd prolly be a good 10 lbs heavier.

I'm all for segregation when it comes to eating. My friend and I ate a Texas Double Whopper at Burger King Wednesday night. It had 70 grams of fat and 1200 calories in it, and it was delicious. I eat stuff like this only on extremely rare occasions, though. You should be limited to how much you can eat, or really obese people just shouldn't be sold this stuff. But there's no sense in punishing all of us for the needs of some.
I'm not for bans on candy and soda in schools because I don't like the way the bans play out (teachers can't give candy on Halloween, football players can't have Gatorade on the practice field, etc.), but I do recognize that there's so many negative influences out there for the young.
In poverty stricken neighborhoods, it's not a matter of "the office job" or "I'm lazy." It's a matter of "I live on welfare, don't have a car, and the only places to eat within a mile are McDonald's and Church's Chicken." I think many people don't realize that a huge (ba dum dum) portion of the obese in America are poor people who have no health education and few means to really eat healthy. We should be reaching out to these areas.
Also, remember that the whole civilized world is catching up to us. Australia is on our tail with fatties, and England is 'bout getting there. The future looks pretty fat and stupid.

The answer, of course, is because Burger King is so delicious.

Also, remember that the whole civilized world is catching up to us. Australia is on our tail with fatties, and England is 'bout getting there. The future looks pretty fat and stupid. That's because you Americans have exported all your fast food joints Can't walk 200 yards without coming across a BK, KFC or Maccy Ds (often all three). Incidentally, I had a happy meal for my lunch. Might be a kid's meal - but it's plenty big enough - I only eat what I require to appease my hunger - and that probably contributes to me being far from obese. Poverty can play a part, sure, but it's not just that - a lot of people just don't know when to stop.
